Marjorie Taylor Greene says McConnell ‘not fit for office’ after apparent on-camera freeze

McConnell, 81, went silent in the face of a question about seeking reelection in 2026.

Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Wednesday insisted that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is not fit to hold public office in the wake of an apparent on-camera freeze by the Kentucky Republican.

McConnell, 81, went silent in the face of a question about seeking reelection in 2026. The lawmaker’s freeze appeared to last for roughly 20 seconds, before he resumed speaking.

“Severe aging health issues and/or mental health incompetence in our nation’s leaders MUST be addressed. Biden, McConnell, Feinstein, and Fetterman are examples of people who are not fit for office and it’s time to be serious about it,” Greene said. “These politician’s [sic] staff and family members should be ashamed of themselves by enabling and allowing their loved ones to remain in office all to hold power.”

“We are talking about our country’s national security and it’s all at stake! 25th amendment and other measures need to be on the table,” Greene continued. The 25th Amendment includes a provision for the removal of the president should he be deemed unable to fulfill his duties.

The Wednesday freeze marked the second such on-camera incident for McConnell, who in July paused mid-sentence for about 20 seconds during a press conference.

  1. Power is addictive and eats you up. No one over 65 should occupy any elected office and every office should have term limits. If they want to serve the public good beyond that let them volunteer somewhere. First intelligent thing I have heard MTG say.

  2. MTG has generally good inclinations but in some respects she’s AOC with a conservative view. It’s not necessary for her to spout on every topic. This is an example.

Mitch isn’t perfect but we owe him for seating a conservative SCOTUS, and just as importantly keeping the rotten scum that is Merrick Garland off of SCOTUS. He had a serious fall and rehabbed; docs have said the freeze effect might persist for a while.

When’s the last time any of us were sorry not to hear from a politician on a given subject? Mitch isn’t perfect but deserves some leeway rather than immediate calls for his ouster. Sheesh!
