Parents argued the inclusion of LGBTQ+ books indoctrinated their kids
A federal court in Maryland decided Thursday that parents can’t opt their kids out of reading books with LGBTQ+ content in Montgomery County Schools.
In Tamer Mahmoud v. Monica B. McKnight, parents sought to reinstate a MCPS policy that would allow them to opt their children out of reading and discussing books with LGBTQ+ characters in elementary schools. The parents argued the content in these books was a form of indoctrination that violated their families’ religious beliefs.
The court disagreed. Judge Deborah L. Boardman, a Biden appointee, concluded that the parents’ “asserted due process right to direct their children’s upbringing by opting out of a public-school curriculum that conflicts with their religious views is not a fundamental right.”
The judge denied the parents’ request for a preliminary injunction that would allow them to opt-out their kids when school begins on August 28.

That is why you teach your kid to quietly and respectfully walk out and go to the office. Once in the office, they can simply say they do not wish to participate in the lesson based on religious grounds. Not one thing can be done. I know because I advised my son to do this very thing while he was at Parkside last year. He followed my directions, and sat quietly in the office. Of course, I received a call and heard all the BS about how things are mandated for a reason and blah, blah, blah. My response was, you are welcome to fail him – is there anything else? Nope. He received a failing grade on that content, but because his grades were so good otherwise, it barley dinged him.

The decision was a good and correct one. If you can opt out of that part of the curriculum then what’s next, science or math because you think all a child needs to learn is the Bible? Teaching kids the facts, including the fact that some people are different, will only prepare them to live in the real world. If you want to tell them being gay is wrong or against your religion, that’s for you to do when you choose. Eventually they’ll decide for themselves. The Taliban forbids women from reading or even learning to read. Opting your kids out from learning things is literally the same thing.

There was not one point in the article that states that one should be taught from the bible. Also a child doesn’t need to be forced to have a portion of their education be about a less than 1% group of people with a mental disability.
