BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Baltimore’s City youth curfew is set to end in about four weeks, on Labor Day.
It went into effect during the Memorial Day weekend after a rash of juvenile disturbances near the Inner Harbor.
During a virtual town hall meeting On Wednesday, Mayor Brandon Scott told an audience the curfew has been a success.
“We have seen, and I’ve heard from not but also from our partners in school police a lot of good results,” said Scott.
However, shortly after the curfew went into effect, the city closed one of the youth connection centers because no youth had been transported.
The curfew has always been voluntary, meaning youth could decline being transported.
While juvenile homicides and shootings appear to have decreased since the curfew, teens have continued to commit crimes late into the night.
Last week, a group of Baltimore City teens attempted to carjack a woman in Anne Arundel County, after arriving in a stolen car around 5:30 in the morning.
Another group stole a car around 2:30 in the morning, after ditching a car stolen from Baltimore City.
