Salisbury, MD – As Waverly Drive is scheduled for resurfacing and maintenance of the worn striping and due to our determined effort to fulfill the scheduled Vision Zero mission of safer and more equitable mobility, the City of Salisbury is excited to unveil the upcoming enhancements to Waverly Dr. These enhancements will improve safety and foster a vibrant environment that accommodates all road users.
The project encompasses several crucial elements designed to promote safety and inclusivity. The current zebra barriers will be removed permanently to streamline traffic flow and to enhance pedestrian access. Two protected bike lanes will be installed, one on each side of the roadway, to match traffic flow. Additionally, a marked mixing zone with a comfortable crossing of a new turn lane will be installed.
To reinforce traffic separation, double yellow solid stripes will be realigned, to ensure clarity and safety for all motorists and cyclists. Moreover, the integration of durable concrete ADA ramps and concrete pedestrian refuges will be installed along the road and will provide an added layer of protection for people walking.
The project’s timeline is as follows:
- Installing Concrete ADA Ramps: Installing concrete ADA ramps is underway and is an ongoing process.
- Removal of zebra barriers: Monday morning on August 21st at 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (weather permitting)
- Milling Pavement – Tuesday August 22nd from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting)
- Concrete Pedestrian Refugees: Concrete pedestrian refuges will be installed after zebra barrier removal and concrete paving completion.
- Bike Lane Pavement Symbols: Installation of striping and pavement symbols will start within 72 hours of paving completion (weather permitting) and continue for about two weeks. Minimal impact on traffic will be minimal once long line striping is complete, which will take a half day.
- Adding Additional Bike Lane: This will begin within days of paving completion. The targeted completion of this added bike lane is the last week of August (weather permitting).

When will improvements on Mill St, the worst street in Salisbury begin ??
Waverly has already had improvement done, if that is what you want to call zebra bumps and bike lanes, about 3 to 4 years ago. Now Waverly is going to get improved yet again. Somebody with authority needs to ride down Mill St and see what the businesses there have to deal with daily. Stop wasting money and use it wisely where it’s actually needed.
And after fixing it, the north end should be renamed S.J. Disharoon Way.
1. ” fulfill the scheduled Vision Zero mission of safer and more equitable mobility”. Oh, look- EQUITY! remember- equity means equality of outcomes, whereas equality mean equal opportunity but no one is guarantied
results.
2. Go look up “Vision Zero” on wikipedia- a GLOBAL program (by whom and for whom?)
“Vision Zero is a multi-national road traffic safety project that aims to achieve a roadway system with no fatalities or serious injuries involving road traffic. It started in Sweden and was approved by their parliament in October 1997.[1] A core principle of the vision is that “Life and health can never be exchanged for other benefits within the society” rather than the more conventional comparison between costs and benefits, where a monetary value is placed on life and health, and then that value is used to decide how much money to spend on a road network towards the benefit of decreasing risk”
In other words- they dont CARE how much those dam concrete barriers cost, because it makes us feel good.
Also, I don’t remember when I gave the people in Sweden a say in how MY roads work!
YEA well thats the crap they spew, but no one has died, so the whole thing is utter bs and unnecessary
Instead of improving areas that need it, they create a shit show in an otherwise functioning area.
I guess your government does not have the ability to think things thru and make reasonable decision .
Bunch of koolaid drinkers.
Ya all enjoying your 65K cartoon light up sign up on rt 13N?
When government says it’s “excited”, it’s misusing the word.
Salisbury is the laughing stock of the state. Total trash.
Nah…PG county and Baltimoron are still at the top. D’bury in top 5.
ZERO VISION is the correct phrse
