Salisbury Maryland 10 Cent Paper Bag Tax/Fee Is A Scam

I’m not sure who is to blame at this point but let’s start with this. When you go to McDonald’s in Salisbury they are now charging every single customer TEN CENTS for bags they were already giving customers for free in the first place.

Oh, I really would like to know which Idiot or Idiots came up with this stupid idea. I mean, sure, eliminate plastic bags, fine. But to add a TEN CENT tax/fee that doesn’t go to the City for recycling purposes/expenses, what the hell is the tax/fee for? Is it so McDonald’s can actually make more money then they already do?

How does a TAX work anyhow? Is the city, state or federal government actually collecting this so called tax? NO! The out of control City Council and Mayor are flat out Idiots. This group of LIBERAL Idiots who think the peasants will continue to allow this to continue legally just goes to show you how politicians can ramrod anything they want down our throats without the public retaliating. Just remember Folks, it starts at our LOCAL government and goes all the way up to the presidency.

Sure, there was a ghost who left cocaine at the White House, Biden is of perfectly sound mind, everyone wants rainbow crosswalks in the city, shall I go on or should I just let comments finish the rest?

Sure, create a law eliminating plastic bags.  Fining/Taxing the peasants of Salisbury is BS, you know it and they know it.

So let’s hear it people, do you agree with this scam. I’m dying to hear what each one of you has to say about this matter.

  1. It’s absolutely a scam. If you go through the drive through they have to give you a paper bag, which they charge you for. If you go inside, you can just take the food without the bag. Makes no sense because you were getting one anyways before hand.

  2. It is BS. Some businesses are charging .35 for bags, some are saying they are not participating , some are using paper and saying that’s no charge where others are also using paper and charging and the best one is big lots in Fruitland is charging for paper bags and they are not even in Salisbury. Do we owe this circus to Jake Day or Jack Heath?

    1. It happened to me at McDs in Fruitland. I asked why they were still using plastic and I was told they
are in Fruitland not Salisbury. SALISBURY SUCKS BIG TIME .

  3. Popeyes in north Salisbury is doing the same thing. It is definitely a way of making 10 more cents from every customer.

  4. When you go through the drive thru window and give you your food. Just hand it back to them and just give my 10 cent back and give me my food without the bag.

  5. The biggest problem right now in Salisbury is the off road gangs taking over the streets pulling guns on old ladies trying to get home from the store… This is domestic terrorism and it’s not being addressed or policed

  6. Don’t eat at McDonald’s – the food is unhealthy and definitely not good for you. If business declines, watch how fast that stops. Re: 8:55 – mobile speed bumps. The problem ends when one of those punks gets run over.

  7. Can we have more information on the gangs and the crime–if you know about it–please elaborate–then we can have these on social media to hopefully put pressure on law enforcement to address it

  8. Can’t you just hand them your own bag for them to put the food in, like at the supermarket? I thought the law requires that they charge at least ten cents for a bag if you ask for one, BUT NOT THAT YOU ARE FORCED TO BUY A BAG IF YOU’RE WILLING TO TAKE THINGS WITHOUT A BAG OR IF YOU BRING AND USE YOUR OWN BAG. I’VE DONE BOTH AT THE SUPERMARKET, taking groceries out without any bag, or using my own bag. Why is McDonald’s any different? What is the actual text of the law?

  9. It’s why I don’t shop in salisbury anymore ,,I will also be voting with my feet and wallet . Big F U to more BS FRAUD WASTE OF TAX DOLLARS.. you need LESS not more… you fiscal freaks are morons!!!

Selling house and moving. Recommend you all do the same before the real tax sunami hits.

  10. the reason why businesses are charging $.10 is because they can. It has nothing to do with the city or its decision. That is a private business choosing to charge people many of the comments above literally prove this…. That being said, if you’re complaining about paying $.10 for a bag while paying six dollars for an unhealthy crap burger at McDonald’s I would shut your fat ass up and keep eating .

    1. It is NOT because they “can”. Businesses can get fined for not participating as it is now a law. I’ll add, not everyone can afford high end restaurants/food. McDonald’s and other fast food places are there for a reason, they’re cheaper then the rest.

    2. It helps to know what you are talking about.
the city told them they have to charge 10 cents a bag, its written into the law.

  11. Again, the problem is that the sheltered baby “elites; who run this city think they are better than you. They ALL listen to Salisbury University’s liberal NPR station, go on the Don Rush show and are chummy with Greg Basset. Its a tiny club, and you ain’t in it. You have the SU professor class and the Michelle Gregory types- all who despise you. You are eastern shore redneck inbred scum and THEY are kind, gentle, loving, moral people. You ill be FORCED to reduce your plastic bag intake so THEY can feel like they are making a “impact” on phony climate change.

So, one less reason to shop at the ACME. Beside all the good employees quitting (now you have mumbling idiots), you have to deal with the drug-adducted homeless trash begging for money. So when the Acme fold, will the city of Salisbury take any responsibility? And when that shopping center goes even (further) downhill, then what? The area around Goodwill and the Wawa is already looking like hell.

Don’t you get it? SU runs this town- and they HATE you. They DESPISE your existence. They want the Ross to appeal to collage students (at least that’s one of the many BS reasons they gave) But does anyone seriously think Betty Co-Ed from New Jersey is going to hang around this dump when she graduates?

  12. LOL I thought we had it bad in Delaware!!!
Seriously though, we’ve always been a very “Salisbury – centric” family
(both my wife and a son SU grads) but no more.
We stopped donating to SU back when the Guerrieri Student Center had the LGBT Drag show-
All done. Sad how it’s become there

  13. Local Resident

Before the almost worthless plastic bags started being used by the stores in Salisbury the cashier rang you up and put your items in free paper bags. So why must they charge for paper bags now ?

    1. Exactly right. Old enough to remember when paper ‘sacks’ were replaced by the plastic bags. It was to save trees from being cut down! And the plastic bags were supposedly made from recycled plastic, IIRC.

There are certainly a number of things around the ‘bury that need cleaned, maintained, etc. Massive quantities of vagrant plastic bags were not on the list. I don’t recall any statistical info being presented to the city council before they rammed this edict through. It passed solely on feelz – with a stroke of the pen and votes from the council morons they eliminated an entire category of potential litter from the garden spot that is the ‘bury. So how many ounces, pounds, tons of loose plastic bags had city employees corralled and documented in the year, month, week before this ordinance saw the light of day? Excuse my cynicism!

There are often plastic drink bottles and aluminum cans left as litter. Are we to expect a follow-on ordinance dictating that beverages must be dispensed in paper cups only with a stipulated price the vendor may charge per serving?

People should be able to choose which type of bag or sack they prefer based on item, quantity, ease of transport and discard, etc. Merchants should be free to provide what they think customers desire. And Jack Heath and his mental midgets should fumble around for reverse gear on this topic and burn rubber once they find it. Paper bags have very low utility for me post acquisition where plastic ones held used cat litter quite handily. Btw, have private refuse collection and county dump sticker since I don’t reside in city limits. I am shifting where I buy and what I buy from vendors hobbled by Heath & crew. And those vendors now charging for paper bags they previously provided free are gonna wish they were Bud Lite distributors instead once word gets around about how they are stabbing remaining customers in the back.

Republicans should pounce and label the council mischief makers and hang this albatross on them.

Perhaps some lawyer will take issue with them dictating the price of paper bags?

  14. Any business that was using paper before (fast food) should not be charging now. And are paper bags that much more expensive than plastic? They got rid of paper and went tp plastic years ago for a reason. Just stupid all around.

  15. It’s insane to mandate paper bags and cut down more trees which actually help the environment and do away with plastic that only cost one cent per bag to manufacture.

  16. Another big problem with reducing bag use and charging customers is theft. Now people are walking out of retail establishments like Boscov’s with clothes unbagged on hangers making it super difficult on retail establishments to identify shoplifters.

This whole idea of outlawing plastic bags is a disaster for all.

    1. Yup, and people can easily shoplift when they bring their own bags into these store’s too!
All thy have to do is walk by and stuff something in, or do it in the changing room

    2. I do not stop for door checkers unless in Sams CLUB.
Unless you are accusing me of stealing, I don’t think you can elude I am so you can check my receipt and then take the accusation back when you find out I am not.
      Its a slippery slope
And no, walmart does not have the “right” to stop you at the door to check your purchase, unless they are unequivocally accusing you of stealing.

  17. It’s by design and it seems to be working. With all the crime, drugs, homelessness, illegal aliens, ghetto rats riding dirt bikes on the highways, inflation the list goes on. They have you arguing over bags. While you sit and argue over paper or plastic some illegal is getting a new welfare card that has more than enough money on it to pay for a 10 cent bag. The price of food, gas and shelter is going up and we are talking about bags. And on the bag subject Royal Farms can kiss my redneck behind. There are never any cashiers behind the counters. There are never any bags to put your goods in. And the self checkout stations are always beyond filthy. (I am talking about the Easton locations specifically) Start paying with cash instead of your cards. They cannot ignore you if you do that.

  18. Everyone go to Fruitland for any purchase you can,. Salisbury gets dumb & dumber now there are more road planters, bike paths than ever check out West Main St , Carroll St they are now making traffic worse than they were already. Don’t forget to vote no to our temporary mayor he is following in fake Jake Day’s footsteps & the acting chief of police Meinschein N0 to both.

  19. Trump can defund these colleges and give the police back their rights. Democrat politicians are worthless.

    1. 8:55 last meeting @ AARP in Salisbury I brought up crime just like Jake, Heath said crime was down dumb & dumber!

  20. 7:24 Jake Day & Jack Heath are the same I would guess since Jake’s address is still Salisbury he is pulling Jack’s strings. We need new blood as mayor & chief of police both we currently have are Joe Bidens.

  21. Go to various store, load up carts, then walk out when get to register and there are no bags. Maybe if merchandisers spend all their time re-stocking they will scream loud enough to get the reg. reversed

  22. Salisbury has banned plastic bags but yet they have taken away the last recycling station in town(the one by the Civic Center)for items such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass etc. Where is the logic in that?

    1. The city and the county are two different entities. The city will likely put its tail between its legs are reverse the charge for plastic bags since the public is so outraged. The fact that businesses are now taking financial advantage of this stupid law, (Wendy’s, McDonald’s and so forth) when they were giving out paper bags anyway, the city council look like complete Idiots. Nevertheless, the county removed those recycling bins because you filthy, dirty, citizens of Salisbury kept throwing nasty trash into recycling bins and the county employees got fed up. Besides, the city has their own curb side pickup for recycling, so stop the bitching and complaining.
