Vice President Kamala Harris made an apparent error during a speech about climate change on Friday by calling for population reduction in order to provide cleaner air and drinking water.
“When we invest in clean energy and electric vehicles and reduce population, more of our children can breath clean air and drink clean water,” Harris said during a speech centered on the Inflation Reduction Act at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Harris’s comments about the Biden administration’s climate change agenda sparked a wave of backlash, with some Republican lawmakers questioning the remark.
“Are you the population she wants to reduce?” Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) tweeted.
