A Viewer Writes: Camden Avenue Improvements?

I invite each of you to take a drive over the new “rumble strips” on Camden Avenue approaching South Boulevard from both north and south before the neighbors and many others complain to you, which I’m sure that they soon will, and not without good reason.  With that drive, you’ll much better understand what their comments are about.

  1. The problem at that intersection was not being able to see very well if you were heading towards the Acme. Hence the “no right on red” and the four way stop sign if your were headed toward St. Francis. Seemed to work fine.

So some dumbass, I mean genius, decided to turn off a perfectly functioning stoplight, change the traffic pattern THEN put up stupid rumble strips, which doesn’t fix the original problem of NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE VERY WELL ON SOUTH BLVD HEADING EAST AT THAT INTERSECTION!!!!

    1. What was the reason for this?
    2. Who is responsible for this?
    3. Why are they not fired?

  2. Obvious solution: Make the intersection a giant roundabout with two way bike lanes in every direction and vivid crosswalks.

C’mon, Heath and Boda, haven’t you been taking notes the past few years while rubber-stamping?

  3. Any fool could have seen that changing the pattern to a boulevard 2-way stop pattern would be dangerous due to line of sight restrictions from the adjacent retaining walls. A car creeping out to see cross traffic then impeded turning traffic by cutting into their radius, much like the plastic posts did previously. Now it’s a 4 way, hindering traffic flow the most of all, and Camden drivers have the pleasure of going over slow speed rumble strips like a washboard road. Between Camden, Caroll, Waverly, Fitzwater, and College Ave., we should all be terrified about what street is next on the list for “improvments”. This is all the fruition of a crack pipe dream from the previous boy mayor, who fled the city once he ruined it. Why the city council and staff is hell bent on decreasing livability in the city, while bankrupting it and raising taxes is beyond me. Now they want to remove all the parking from downtown and build a park. We already have a huge park. We have a huge open lot where the old mall was, that’s adjacent to the existing park, civic center, YMCA, and Schumaker Park, all with adequate existing parking. Why not make that the recreational corridor? I’d rather they take all the tax revenues and make a bonfire out of it than ruin the city with improvements that don’t work and nobody wants. Enough is enough.

3:24 says we should all be terrified of what street is next on the “improvements” list. Well I can tell you for sure that Mill Street will definitely not be the next street for improvements. That narrows it down a little.

    1. The north section of Mill Street will be cleaned up and improved when ice skating and snow cones come to Hell.

  5. The residents in that area of Camden Ave,. should sue the city for the noise of the rumble strips causing them sleepless nights! That is by far, the stupidest thing I have seen them do, well not really, everything they fix that isn’t broken, makes no sense. What is broken and in dire need of repairs, is not done. Fix the freakin’ pot holes throughout the city instead of making life miserable for residents having to listen to rumble strips all night and day.
