MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Both charges have been dropped against the McDonald’s employee who was accused of fatally shooting a customer in March.
According to Shelby County Criminal Justice System, Preston Deener was originally charged with second-degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a handgun. He also had a warrant for domestic assault from a previous incident.
Deener was caught on video surveillance pulling out his gun and shooting the customer, Chanteva Gray, in the chest after she banged on the drive-thru window with a gun and complained about her food order at a McDonald’s in Orange Mound.
The single bullet killed Gray.
MORE WICOMICO COUNTY DEPUTIES RETIRE – MORE LOOKING TO LEAVE! DO YOU BELIEVE ME YET THAT WE HAVE A PROBLEM?
Over the past few months, I have been very vocal about a major issue we have here in Wicomico County with our Sheriff’s Office. Last week, I mentioned that several deputies had already retired and I felt that the Sheriff’s Office was dealing with a major morale issue due to how they feel treated, the working conditions under the current contract, and of course, their pay.
In recent weeks, I have personally spoken to several deputies and I can tell you unequivocally, their morale is absolutely the lowest I have ever seen it, and think about it, can you really blame them? I am going to post the budget meeting video from this past week. During this budget meeting, Sheriff Lewis made an appearance and discussed some crucial factors about the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Lewis stated that in his 16 years at the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, he has never seen it as bad as it is right now and even went as far as calling it a “crisis.”
(If you want to speed up the video, the part about the sheriff’s office starts at the 35:00 mark) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3RKrP80I50&t=2427s
The sheriff announced that more deputies were leaving the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Lewis stated that D/Sgt Joe Thompsen announced his immediate retirement after 30+ years of service due to Mike Lewis! The Sheriff stated that there are now 18 vacancies in the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.
This past week, two more deputies announced that they have applied to the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office. It’s pretty tough to expect Sheriff’s Lewis to maintain a full staff of deputies knowing they are up against other departments that are offering reasonable starting salaries like Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, who are offering laterals with 2+ years of service a starting salary of $62K a year and Caroline County Sheriff’s Office offering $67K a year to start out.
One common factor from nearly every deputy that I spoke with said was they were interested in seeing what happens with the upcoming vote on Resolution No. 64-2023 – Amending the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Wicomico County, Maryland, the Office of the Sheriff of Wicomico County, and Wicomico County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #111. The REAL PROBLEM here folks is undoubtedly Wicomico County Sheriff MIKE LEWIS way of leading and promotions!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!! He is the reason Deputies are leaving!! If you do not kiss his @SS, you have nothing coming! Sad state of affairs at the sheriff’s Office….
Ummm….. 9:55…… I think you might have responded to the wrong post. I’m sure you could email Joe and submit this as a letter to the editor and that he would keep your identity to himself. He’s very good like that. Best of luck.
I totally agree with you 955am
Todd handicap Richardson ( with his BLOWN UP self) is another big problem.in the department.
Fire Todd and Mikey
Mike spends lots of time in Florida building his home.
Wonder if Mikey is on Wicomico County payroll during that time with T Richardson covering it up.
