Trump has not indicated any plans to appeal the decision as of press time, but will likely do so
Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday fumed over a jury decision to hold him liable for battery and defamation stemming from claims writer E. Jean Carroll made that he had raped her in the 1990s.
The jury specifically determined that the conduct amounted to sexual abuse, rather than rape.
Carroll had claimed that the incident occurred in a department store dressing room, though Trump adamantly denies such an event took place. Shortly after the verdict and the court’s awarding of $5 million in damages to Carroll, Trump spoke out on Truth Social, claiming he didn’t know Carroll at all.
“I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS. THIS VERDICT IS A DISGRACE – A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!” he wrote.
Trump’s legal team previously sought a mistrial in the case, arguing that Judge Lewis Kaplan had a history of prejudicial rulings against the former president, though Kaplan denied the request.
He’ll appeal and win then sue her and she’ll pay him
