Are Universities Doomed?

Elite university degrees certify very little. And the secret is out.

In a famous exchange in the The Sun Also Rises, Ernest Hemingway wrote: “How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked. “Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually, then suddenly.”

“Gradually” and “suddenly” applies to higher education’s implosion.

During the 1990s “culture wars” universities were warned that their chronic tuition hikes above the rate of inflation were unsustainable.

Their growing manipulation of blanket federal student loan guarantees, and part-time faculty and graduate teaching assistants always was suicidal.

Left-wing indoctrination, administrative bloat, obsessions with racial preferences, arcane, jargon-filled research, and campus-wide intolerance of diverse thought short-changed students, further alienated the public—and often enraged alumni.

Over the last 30 years, enrollments in the humanities and history crashed. So did tenure-track faculty positions. Some $1.7 trillion in federally backed student loans have only greenlighted inflated tuition—and masked the contagion of political indoctrination and watered-down courses.

But “gradually” imploding has now become “suddenly.” Zoom courses, a declining pool of students, and soaring costs all prompt the public to question the college experience altogether.

  1. LGBT- QRSTUVWXYZ SQAUD

I identify as a female lion , and not a male as others try to call me .

I took out a 300,000.00 dollar loan to study how men can have babies.

this article is prejudice against those who wish to identify daily what they want to be .

I voted for Jake Day, and want him to be my president in 2024

    See you tonight Jake

    Love your Queen ?

  2. Stay away from large liberal universities you’re just a number all they want is your money and push you through or fail you they could care less and professors are zealot perverts . Best off to go to a small college with small class size that focus on you

  3. “Best off to go to a small college with small class size that focus on you” Like Salisbury University? They REALLY care about you, right? Enough to force young soon to be child rearing men and women to take a totally unnecessary and evil medicine that prevents not cures the disease it claims to counter? Where they have an official “Office of Institutional Equity”? If you send your son to daughter to the shithole that is Salisbury U. you do not love your son or daughter or you are alternatively too stupid for this earth.

  4. SU starts off at 20k per year (not including room and board for in state students). You walk with 80k in debt for a 4 year degree in the middle of a cesspool of a “city”.

Now think about all of the degree offerings. The (consistently) top recession resistant (no job is recession proof) jobs are in medicine, human services (we will always need electricity and water for example), vocational services and the like.

I know a plumber locally that never went to college. Went to trade school, owns his own business now. Worked his way up and is making great money, with no debt and he is always in demand and has been for 20+ years.

I’d suggest the snowflakes consider a new career path – college is NOT the way to go, and definitely NOT at what they charge.
