‘This is not trolling. It is not cancellation. This is abuse’
(THE COLLEGE FIX) – The instructor of the University of Chicago’s “The Problem of Whiteness” course is doubling down on her complaints about her critics, this time zeroing in on how social media amplifies such voices.
Late last month, Rebecca Journey (pictured) accused a U. Chicago student of “stochastic terrorism” due to his alleged “online campaign to cancel” the class – which led to “online harassment and death threats.”
Now, in a December 8 op-ed in the student paper Chicago Maroon, Journey details some of the sordid bits of harassment and threats “The Problem of Whiteness” detractors have sent her.
Is the “Problem of Whiteness” involve working for, and earning, the things you have in life? Does it have anything to do with accepting responsibility for your life and accepting your failures as YOUR fault?
Does it have something to do with believing that anything not locked down is open season and reason for stealing it?
Or not thinking that beating the F out of anyone that says something you don’t like is a normal response to disagreement?
How about thinking that having 4 kids you can’t support is a great idea and a wonderful way to be a stay-at-home mom because SOMEONE else is responsible for YOUR KIDS???
Oh. It probably has something to do with not doing well in school, because THAT would not be a road to a better life, but merely “acting white”.
Or does the “Problem of Whiteness” have something to do with the idea that YOU are responsible for your successes and failures and that YOU can do and be anything with enough hard work and perseverance?
Maybe it has something to do with the shame white people feel about having a criminal record and NOT thinking that prison time is a badge of honor???
I don’t know….it seems to me the Problem of Whiteness is not really a problem, but just another excuse.
