WCSO Criminal Investigation Division – Armed Robbery – Purnell St

Incident: Armed Robbery
Date of Incident: October 22, 2022
Location: Purnell St, Salisbury MD
Suspects: 13 year old juvenile, 15 year old juvenile, Tavionn Cortez Palmer (18 year of age)
On October 22, 2022, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to an address to meet with a victim of a reported armed robbery. Deputies met with a 14-year-old victim who advised they had just been robbed at gunpoint of their cell phone. The victim advised that the subject was armed with a black firearm equipped with a green laser. The victim stated they were robbed in the area of Purnell Street and Jersey Road.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) assumed the investigation. CID developed a 13-year-old suspect who was later identified as the individual that committed the armed robbery. A search and seizure warrant was authored for a residence located in the 500 block of Purnell Street, Salisbury, Wicomico County, MD. As part of the investigation, on October 24, 2022, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team (SERT) executed said search warrant on the residence. During the execution of the search warrant, a 15-year-old male attempted to flee out the back window of the residence. Members of CID were positioned in the backyard of the residence which prevented the 15-year-old from escaping. The 15-year-old then surrendered to members of SERT. The 13-year-old suspect was not located inside the residence.
A search of the residence revealed a “Just Right Carbines” AR style Pistol, Model JR, 9mm pistol loaded with 6 rounds. The weapon was located in the bedroom of the 13-year-old male, the 15-year-old male, and Tavionn Cortez Palmer. The AR pistol had a green laser attached to it, matching the description of the firearm that was utilized during the armed robbery. All three subjects are prohibited from possessing firearms due to being under the age of 21. Palmer is furthermore prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous criminal convictions. Palmer was arrested and charged with firearm offenses prior to being released to the Wicomico County Detention Center. Palmer was originally held without bond. The 15-year-old male was charged on a juvenile referral for firearm-related offenses. The 15-year-old was detained by the Department of Juvenile Services at the Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center.
It was learned that the 13-year-old was staying with a family member. The 13-year-old was brought to WCSO where he was taken into custody. The 13-year-old brought the stolen cell phone from the robbery to WCSO. The 13-year-old was charged on a juvenile referral with armed robbery and other related firearm offenses. The 13-year-old was detained by the Department of Juvenile Services at the Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center.
The Wicomico County Board of Education was notified of the incident as this is a reportable offense under Md. EDUCATION Code Ann. § 7-303.
All subjects mentioned in this press release are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  1. We’re reading a lot of stories on crime coming out of Salisbury about armed drug dealers, shootings, and armed robberies. Unless Salisbury can get a handle on this violent crime, Salisbury’s desire to turn the downtown area into a mini version of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor will suffer the same fate as the Inner Harbor as people, both residents and visitors, stay away so they can avoid becoming a victim of or worse.
