State Police Investigate Pedestrian Hit And Run Worcester Co.

(BERLIN, MD) — Maryland state troopers are investigating a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian last night in Worcester County.

The victim is identified as Terri Wattay, 59, of Berlin. She was transported from the scene by EMS personnel to Atlantic General Hospital where she was later transferred to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police believe she was walking her dog at the time of the incident. The dog was not injured in the crash.

The driver involved in the crash is identified as Russell Kimball, 62, of Berlin.  Kimball was the operator of a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. Police located Kimball and the vehicle at his residence on Grays Corner Road. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Shortly before 8:15 p.m. last night, troopers from the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack were notified of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 11000 block of Grays Corner Road in Berlin.  The victim, later identified as Wattay, was found lying on the ground off the north side of the roadway.

The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling west on Grays Corner Road when it struck the pedestrian who was on the right side of the roadway. Evidence collected from the scene includes a right front side mirror and other parts from the vehicle.

While canvassing the neighborhood, troopers located a vehicle in a nearby driveway. The vehicle had damage to match the parts found at the nearby crash scene. Troopers subsequently made contact with the residents and with the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Kimball. He told police he swerved to miss a dog.

Maryland State Police from the Berlin Barrack and from the Criminal Enforcement Division Eastern Region responded to the scene. Deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Ocean City Fire Department also responded. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is conducting the investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed this hit and run is urged to contact the Maryland State Police Crash Team at 410-819-4753.  Callers may remain anonymous.

The investigation is continuing.  Additional information will be provided when it becomes available.

  1. Guy driving an old Chevy, living near the trailer park gets named in less than 24 hours. The guy who killed a child driving a Mercedes from a nicer area, still crickets????

    1. Stupid comments… the cops FOUND the truck right down the street..the guy ADMITTED he swerved to avoid the dog.. unfortunately, NOBODY WITNESSED the person driving the car that killed poor Gavin… people pretty much know who did it, but they have to be able to place the driver in the car.

  2. You really think anyone gives a crap what kind of car it was?? Putting the driver behind the wheel is not as easy as you want to think…if nobody saw the driver… what do you think is going on??? It take time to get warrants for phone records, social media… whatever… you really want someone charged and then found not guilty because he can’t be placed behind the wheel yet??? As soon as they can, the driver will be charged…

    1. I agree that they must get it right so the charges stick. The bottom line is that the kid and his mom were both drunk and hit the poor boy. Mom’s live in boyfriend uses his connections and wealth to cover it up and drag it out. At this point, a DUI is impossible, and there are no cameras near where he was hit (look at the make shift memorial and then the distance to Crabs to go). With no witnesses, and no doubt the wealthy boyfriend has been advised to keep his mouth shut, there are no witnesses with the exception of the kid’s sister. I’m sure she has provided all she can, but it might not be enough. The car itself and any DNA it can provide is about all law enforcement has. If you know anything about this, it is difficult without an individual to submit a sample. Likely there has been some action to gather this evidence another way, but that was likely held up by the rich guy’s attorney. Now what? I don’t have any idea personally, and these are just my thoughts, but I really don’t think anything will ever be done.

I do know this though – God will have all involved in court one day, and there is no way out of that.
