Harris Announces DOT Grant for Final Design of Susquehanna Bridge Replacement

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), the Acting Ranking Member of House Appropriations Agriculture Subcommittee, is pleased to announce that the Department of Transportation listened to our Delegation request and issued a discretionary grant award in the amount of $20,000,000 to the National Railroad Passenger Corporation. The purpose of the grant is to fund the final design for the preplacement of the 115-year-old Susquehanna River Rail Bridge connecting Havre de Grace and Perryville, MD. The new bridge will have a higher clearance above the river and feature a moveable span that can more efficiently open and close to maritime traffic.

Congressman Harris issued the following the statement:

“I am very pleased to see that the Department of Transportation issued a grant for the final design and replacement of Susquehanna’s 115-year-old rail bridge that serves freight and commuter traffic, including Amtrak and MARC. Replacing this heavily used and older bridge will improve the safety of all travelers, including maritime traffic below it, and create economic opportunity for residents of the first district.  I look forward to seeing the final design and replacement of the Susquehanna bridge.”

  1. Andy Harris is one of the few good things that have happened to the Eastern Shore. At least he doesn’t call us the $hithouse side of Maryland.
