SALISBURY – A $2.5 million grant award is expected to help with the demolition and revitalization of the old Campbell Soup factory on West Road.
On Wednesday, the Wicomico County Council voted unanimously to accept a $2.5 million Neighborhood Revitalization grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, which will be allocated to Salisbury-based Davis Strategic Development for the demolition and revitalization of 510 West Road.
“What we want to do is stabilize the property and produce income …,” said Davis Strategic Development owner Bret Davis. “This $2.5 million is, candidly, a drop in the bucket but we can get the worst parts of the factory removed and improve the façade.”
While three companies currently utilize space within the old factory, Davis told officials this week much of the 300,000-square-foot building has fallen into disrepair since Campbell Soup closed the plant in the early 1990s.
With the help of grant funding, Davis said the first phase of improvements would include the demolition of the brick wall abutting West Road, as well as the areas directly behind it. There are also plans to address parking and stabilize the roof.
I see more more section 8 housing coming to the gheto
Gay Jake Day has already approved Section 8 Government housing for that area
Nail salon, hair salon, barber shop, liquor store, laundromat, pop-up church, home cooking restaurant, convenience store, daycare center, etc.
In business, always play to the audience.
The demographics drive the sales market everywhere.
Do not forget the multiple pawn shops and used tire dumps. Sby looks like a 3rd world country.
Spend some time in a real third world city and then make your claim. Start with Mogadishu.
Yup. Day loves him some black neighborhoods. He’ll blow a ton of our money on the ghetto, and bike lanes nobody uses.
The local slumlords mouths are watering. Section 8…….easy and for sure money for slumlords.
Just wait until the taxpayers pay to clean that filth up and then the local slumlords will get the land for pennies on the dollar and the ghetto will expand while about 6 slumlords rake in millions (and the taxpayer??? you FOOLS!!!)
ONE lawyer in town owns over 600 houses. House that were built 60-70 years ago and have been paid in full for decades. Traded back and forth for tax breaks like you and I play Monopoly.
Read that again. How civic-minded do you think HE is?????
Bet your life this is ALREADY planned, worked out, and divvied up, including tax write-offs and shell corporations.
These slumlords (with outstanding political connections) are thieves, robbers, racists, cutthroats, liars, cheats, financiers of drug shipments and production (how much time do you have, ’cause the list of similar traits they share is a long and dirty one), but they are very good and ripping off regular citizens (especially the poor -especially), manipulating the people and tearing the taxpayers a new one. You would be better off with a Black Mamba snake loose somewhere in your house than having these slimy men in charge of ANYTHING that affects you. You just keep cheering them!!
This city is beginning to resemble the fictional “Gotham City” with its corruption and back-door dealings running amok. The Crips and the Bloods would be better than these criminals.
The only solution I see is to march them all into the street and hang each one from a lamp post (on TV) with a sign around their neck that say’s “Don’t be like them.”. Leave them there for a week or so while crows and buzzards have a shot at their blackening bodies.
Mark what I say.
As usual imclain- you are spot on.
Not Gotham City. But, the real other side of the Bay.
