Harris Statement on DOT Grant to Chesapeake Shipbuilding Company

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a discretionary grant award in the amount of $1,114,539.00 to Chesapeake Shipbuilding, Inc. This funding will be used to support the purchases of a CNC Messer System Plasma Table, a 30-ton mobile travelift crane, and a CNC 250-ton, 14-foot press brake.

Congressman Harris issued the following the statement:

“I supported this grant application because America needs to invest in domestic shipbuilding capability. This grant to Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury will greatly improve their shipbuilding operational efficiency and effectiveness, and help this major local industry remain a vital part of our economy.”

  1. The irony is there would be plenty of domestic ship building if it weren’t for Govt regulations and overpriced union workers so now it comes full circle. reminds me of what the great President Reagan once said concerning gov, ” if it moves tax it and if it doesn’t move subsidize it “.

    1. It takes union wages now just to survive 907. You sound like someone with plenty of money and afraid some hard working union member might reach you social status. All workers should be rewarded fairly from the profits of big business.

  2. Andy, please start working now on next years visas for crab pickers. It was way too late this year and now the regulations starting 1 Aug. We all need to know to prepare for next year or call it quits.

  3. Reasons such as this are the reasons I keep voting for Andy every election time. He actually cares about the Eastern Shore.
