Today’s Survey Question

Do you believe the price of stamps will go back down IF the price of fuel eventually goes down?

  1. Not a big deal anymore. I get everything by email now including the bills and pay everything online.
The only time I use a stamp is once a years to pay the property taxes.

    1. You don’t even need to send that by mail. I called and found out I could pay property taxes by my online bill payment. Just be sure to put your account info on the check (I put it in as account number and also in memo with parcel # too).

  2. USPS is a relic from a time that mail was essential for the country but not profitable. Now it is profitable for everyone in the delivery business except USPS, who always loses millions per year. If they are losing money then the price of the stamp should go up. Otherwise your taxes are subsidizing junk mail. I have a feeling you could make it profitable overnight by cutting out stupid wasteful programs.

  3. No. Of course not. There is no linkage between the two.

In the unlikeliest of scenarios USPS hedges its fuel purchases and guesses wrong piling up an unimaginable bill that so distorts its budget enough to require a boost in stamp cost to stay whole. A reverse scenario where they save so bigly so as to reduce stamp price is equally unlikely. You and I will have won Powerball several times with the same numbers on the same day several times before either above scenario plays out.

    IOW, ain’t gonna happen.

  4. I do not personally think so. Right now, fewer and fewer people are using stamps and opting for electronic options, which has definitely hurt the USPS. To counter, they have to raise prices to pay for all of those salaries and pensions. I don’t see gas prices going back to what they were 18 months ago, and it seems to me that every year or two the post office raises the cost of stamps (and has been doing so for awhile). I also think that with such stiff private sector competition (UPS, FedEx, etc.) that the USPS’ days are numbered.

  5. No. It would be nice if the Post Office would stop their employees from taking checks out of the locked drop boxes at the post office then washing out the pay to info and trying to cash them.

  6. Revenue generators never decrease – only go up. Not to mention the USPS attempt to go to all electric vehicles….they will NEED the money!

    Sheesh

  7. Who mails anything other than a Holiday or Birthday card? I would not mail or have mailed to me anything of a personal or financial nature and the junk mail is not fit to start fires.

  8. Concerned Retiree

Never the UNIONS will not let it happen. They said that years ago when they went animated and the pay and benefits continually went up cause the UNIONS said they still needed the money.

  9. if the government hadnt robbed the mail system like they did social security they would have money. Dont let the government find any money just lying around
