Texas official: Uvalde classroom door unlocked during shooting as officers waited for keys: ‘Abject failure’

Texas public safety chief says Uvalde police could have stopped Robb Elementary shooting within three minutes

The head of the Texas Department of Public Safety said Tuesday that Uvalde police could have stopped the mass shooting at Robb Elementary within three minutes, calling their response an “abject failure.”

Testifying before a special Texas Senate committee hearing, Col. Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, told lawmakers that “There is compelling evidence that the law enforcement response to the attack at Robb Elementary was an abject failure and antithetical to everything we’ve learned over the last two decades since the Columbine massacre.”

“Three minutes after the suspect entered the west building, there was a sufficient number of armed officers wearing body armor to isolate, distract, and neutralize the subject,” he said. “The only thing stopping a hallway of dedicated officers from entering Room 111, and 112, was the on-scene commander, who decided to place the lives of officers before the lives of children.”

  1. The demonrats are so predictable. Fuel prices double, tens of billions of dollars in military equipment left behind in Afghanistan for the Taliban to use, inflation stealing 1 months buying power from our citizens and an approval rating that is decreasing by the minute. Their solution is for all of us that we should buy an electric vehicle and give up our guns. What happened in Uvalde can be understood using a minimum of common sense. A teacher blocks open a door to a school that is on lockdown a minute before a truck crashes across the street from the school. That teacher goes outside to verify the crash and leaves the door unlocked. An armed shooter fires a few rounds and by chance finds the unlocked door. The police come by and decide to use their efforts to make sure that the local citizens don’t go into the school to save their children for an hour plus. What does your common sense tell you?
