Expect Energy Bills To Reach More New Records, Crippling Highs This Summer

According to analysts’ warnings, electric bills will be even larger than ever this summer, adding to the pain of high inflation and record-high fuel costs.

Recent estimates from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) indicate that electricity prices will rise by a national average of 3.9% this summer, a significant increase over last summer. Even in areas where conservation of energy is practiced, expenditures will be up at least 0.9%

  1. Why here on the 10 mile island does every business need to have its lights pretty much ON after 2am? Are there so many people out during the middle of the weekday night to advertise that XXXXX establishment is there? (answer has been NO and will remain that way)

Plus at this time of the year, dawn is about 530am so lights aren’t necessary AND many establishments aren’t open. Some yes, but not all.

A little savings is better than NO savings.

  2. I can proudly say now my father was efficiently thrifty. Growing up I thought he was incredibly cheap. He grew up in the age of outhouses and hand pumps and built our home himself in the 60s for 11, OOO dollars he had to borrow. Even though the home was doubly insulated for its time in his mind everything was on meter like the electricity. We had a well but if he heard the pump running and you showered too long he’d turn the water off. We did not lounge around in pajamas and sweats the heat was on 64. If he came home and there were lights on in unoccupied rooms he’d go nuts. He thought the phone was metered and there was a three-minute egg timer sand hourglass by the one and only phone the house ever had and you made your call had your say and got off the line much to my teenage sister’s chagrin. He didn’t have a color TV until we’d gone off to College in the 80s and pitched in bought him one and swore there was nothing wrong with his BW tube TV. He never bought a new car and I watched him drop used engines into the same junkers stubbornly numerous times. He kept a huge garden and his only escape was FISHING. He built my first bike out of junk and handed me a burlap sack to ride the roads and pick up aluminum cans and he himself unabashedly brought home the cans his coworkers bought from the vending machines as he had a home brought a thermos of coffee his lunch and a mason jar full of water and ice covered with used tin foil. He was a simple man a Marine and worked in a miserable filthy feed mill locally and when he died he left my sister and I damn near a Million dollars EACH that he’d banked away. WE WILL SURVIVE THIS. We just have to give up all our pampered luxuries and posturing. It might even be a good wake-up call to return to what actual. Success today is about Shady and Shoddy business scheming and trying to get over what you think is there for your taking and what you deserve but it’s all quite simple. In the end you don’t get out alive and true success is if anyone remembers you adoringly.
