A Viewer Writes: Guns vs Mental Health

When are our Pols and others accept the facts of guns.  Guns aren’t the problem.  They don’t shoot themselves.  It takes a finger on a trigger.  The finger is attached to person who most likely is not mentally balanced.  So why are family members, friends, neighbors, classmates etc. not doing their part and intercede and report unbalanced behavior.  Come on folks, we can all recognize unbalance actions and words. Take action.  It may save your life.  Mental health facilities were shuttered in the late 60’s and 70’s, thinking to save tax money.  Instead turned these patients on society to fix.  Well they didn’t. Mental health continues to be an overriding problem, probably epidemic. It is here, fix it!

  1. Mental problems with children has been around since the beginning of time, nothing new. The problem is lack of family values, morality, and adults and parents wanting to be their kids “friends” instead of parenting. Being a parent is HARD WORK.

  2. Guns are not the problem. If guns were not available the mentally unbalanced would simply find another method. The issue here is two fold. First, we have people who have mental health issues, but are undiagnosed and have broken no laws. If they are previously unknown to mental health or law enforcement, and are not posting on social media, they will not be found. The other issue is the school systems. I read that a door was propped open letting the shooter in. If this is true, there you have the second problem.

  3. Concerned Retiree

The only thing I would add is when the Democrats got rid of the “DEATH PENALTY” with unlimited time for appeals. Now all the LIBERALS give criminals a slap on the hand and tell them to show up for COURT and don’t do it again. Criminals are treated like a person that knows no better and pampers them instead of putting them on road crews.

  4. So naive.
Red Flag laws have already gotten people killed
Wives using it as a weapon against their innocent husbands.
Neighbors using it as a weapon against innocent neighbor.
Sorry but unless you are educated in determining a mental illness, you are doing nothing more than creating problems that do not exist.
Not every mentally ill person is a murderer
