Saddle Up! It’s Fishing Rodeo Season!

Youth fishing rodeos are back! Dust off your fishing gear and get outside by taking part in some of our more than 40 youth fishing rodeos this year. Fishing rodeos are a great way to learn fishing basics, discover your natural resources, and, of course, catch a fish!

Check out the list of fishing rodeos on our website. Many of these events fill up quickly so you’ll need to register.

Spring Trout Stocking 

For the past few weeks, you may have noticed spring trout stocking has begun!

Our hatchery teams have been caring for thousands of brown, golden, and rainbow trout to be released in creeks, ponds, and rivers all across Maryland.

Anglers can get in on the exciting spring trout fishing season now! You can sign up for daily stocking emails or explore our interactive stocking map to see which areas have been stocked near you. You can also check for updates daily on our website and once a week on a recorded phone message at 1-800-688-3467.

No Tackle Needed! Learn about our Loaner Programs

Want to try fishing without committing to buying a pole? Did you know that the department offers tackle loaner programs at dozens of libraries across the state, at Janes Island State Park on the Eastern Shore, and at Rocky Gap State Park in Western Maryland?

Learn more about our tackle loaner program online. Check with your local library to see if they participate in our tackle loaner program.

Commemorate a Milestone

My First Fish recognizes an angler’s achievement of getting their first catch. Fill out the certificate and print it on a color printer. You can also attach a photo to the top right corner.

Any fish caught in Maryland waters is eligible. Fish that do not comply with state law or regulations must be immediately returned to the water.

  1. just make sure you have a license and a trout stamp and you are only allowed one. DNR ought to be defunded. They let the commercial guys rape the waters and hammer the little guy. typical of any nazi organization funded by the people’s republic of maryland!
