Stuck in legal limbo, Baltimore’s Harborplace lurches toward zombie status

Harborplace – once the crown jewel of downtown Baltimore – isn’t dead yet, but it isn’t really alive either.

The once vibrant shopping-and-dining destination is now mostly vacant as a combination of factors including poor management, legal disputes, the decline of in-person retail and the COVID-19 pandemic have dealt a near-fatal blow to the once-bustling tourist attraction.

This month marked the latest high-profile departure – the seafood restaurant Bubba Gump Shrimp. A representative for the restaurant’s management company, Luke Kosters, said the location closed because of COVID-19’s impact on the restaurant industry as well as the landlord’s failure to maintain the building.

  1. Investment owner Mis-management, probably very high rent, COVID and lack of hospitality help.
Sounds so familiar to what’s transpired here on the island!

Memorial day only 13 weekends away (its late this year) followed by the inlet Rowdy-Oh-Ho!

Gonna be a fun fun season!

  2. All the Rouse developments are decaying. From Bostons Inner Harbor, Baltimore’s and the Utopian Columbia Md. I knew the son Teddy when he was traveling to Cuba speculating under the Clinton administration as a diplomat hoping it would open up and they could return it to the tourist Disney World it was before Castro kicked the Mafia out. His brother Jimmy fancied himself an artist and had a bookstore and cafe on the family dime and his trust fund in Baltimore but was a want to be Liberal Bohemian and actually a terminal BORE.

  3. No one is going to go to the inner harbor because it along with the rest of Baltimore has become a run down thug infested ghetto.

  4. “The harbor is absolutely beautiful and stunning on a new nice spring day or a warm summer night to go down to take a stroll so having some amenities down there is critical.

yeah I like looking at all the trash and used condoms floating in the harbor! just a lovely picture on any day!
