SALISBURY – County officials say they are looking to implement a new base pay salary program as early as April.
On Tuesday, Acting County Executive John Psota, Finance Director Pam Oland and Bolton representative Dan Ripberger came before the Wicomico County Council to present the results of a long-awaited salary study. Psota told council members this week the study not only presented recommendations, but included a plan for implementing and funding those recommendations in the coming months.
“The purpose and objective of this study was to analyze the mark-to-market payrate for our county positions,” he said, “so as to make the county competitive as it relates to recruiting and retaining qualified employees to ensure high-quality core services are continuously delivered to our citizens.”
Ripberger said that his company worked with the county to improve upon its current compensation program. He noted that he had interviewed 12 department heads and conducted a pay survey of 12 surrounding counties to present pay grade and job classification recommendations that would make Wicomico more attractive to current and potential employees.
“The purpose of this report is to provide the results of the study and also outline a program we’re recommending the county adopt because I think the program that’s in place now really is not meeting the needs in a lot of different facets,” he said.
bla bla freaking bla.
both state and county pay is a joke.
I have 30+ years experience and applied and interviewed for a state job.
The range pay was 32-72K I was told state policy is EVERYONE starts at the bottom.
I have not made that little in decades, I am not starting over now.
Every time I see a county job vacant I just laugh at the absolutely horrible pay.
So while you are busy complaining on how lazy the city, county and state employees are, just remember they are not making enough to have even a basic standard of living or opportunity to escape poverty. I would sit on my ass all day to at that rate of pay.
Even funnier is your clueless leaders had to hire someone to tell them this?
Before any Wicomico County Officials implement any type of New Salary Program, the Wicomico County Executive Office needs to be eliminated first! I heard there was a petition for citizens to sign to place this office on the ballot. Does anyone know where the petition is so I can sign?
I agree with you 100%! It’s been long enough and proven to be a wasted and expensive position. The County Executive and the Office has cost the tax payers $millions and it increases millions every year! It’s time to eliminate that office and eliminate it now! It’s not working!
How about YOU starting the petition!
First off, the author Bethany, needs to learn how to write coherent sentences
Holloway told Cannon the salary being proposed was for an elected position, not a hired position.
“People run for elections because they want to serve …,” he said. “They should not run for an elected position because it pays $124,000.”
Who is “he said”? Is it Holloway or Cannon?
And these idiots are your elected leaders
They hired and paid someone to tell them wages were too low to get good candidates and retain them and then some moron comes out with the above statement and vetoing an appropriate increase.
People who run also need to feed their families and make an adequate living to do so.
They are running to get elected for a job.
People are not running “to serve”, what an ignorant outdated theory.
People can no longer afford to work for inferior pay, with no wage adjustment for over 15 years.
The County Officials are giving themselves a raise for doing absolutely Nothing! Citizens should have the legal right to vote for the raise not the officials! I like how the post is worded “Wicomico Officials look to Implement a New Salary Program.” It should read, “Wicomico Officials look to give themselves a hefty pay raise for doing nothing.” No need to sugar coat it, Tell it like it is. Take, Take, Take from the Wicomico County citizens and do less! The study was done by a friend of a friend who is currently serving on the Wicomico County Council! Whoa and Disgusting!!! I vote NO!!!!
yes. lets leave the clowncil in charge, brilliant idea.
Fake News! Your comment makes absolutely NO sense! Who is the friend of a friend on the county council?? Name names and while you are at it sign your name.
“Where’s the money going to come from” is the real question? With a $15 Maryland minimum wage coming by the end of 2026, the money needed to pay for these pay raises will come from the county facility and infrastructure operating and maintenance budgets. That means less services to the community. Just wait and see.
The pay rate for now is not stopping anyone from funning for office. It sounds like the ones still in office are the complainers of do not get paid enough. Hey complainers who have been in office too long, exit stage right!
I agree with 12:47. If you find out where the petition is, please post it.
Please start a petition yourself since you want it so bad! What are you afraid of??
once people learn they can vote themselves anything a democracy dies!
I wonder if these consultants consulted with any members of the County Council?
Did they consult with the acting County Executive John Psota?
The consultants are in cahoots with some members of the Wicomico County Council! Do your research and you will be surprised. As they always say Follow the money.
If you don’t like what the position already pays them don’t apply or run for it! It’s that simple! Stop complaining already, you knew what the pay was when you accepted the position!
