The deal marks the first time a gunmaker has been held responsible for a mass shooting.
Families of the people killed in the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School agreed to a $73 million settlement with Remington, the manufacturer of the Bushmaster AR-15 style rifle used to kill 20 children and six adults that day.
The deal marks the first time a gunmaker has been held liable for a mass shooting and, the families say, it could provide a blueprint for future legal action against the gun industry.
That blueprint: Go after a firearm company’s marketing tactics. While a 2005 federal law grants gunmakers broad immunity from litigation when their products lead to violence, the Sandy Hook families sued Remington on grounds it violated Connecticut’s consumer protection law through unfair marketing tactics.
Why????? Why did Remington held responsible?? So when a criminals shoot an kill people they can just sue the guns/ ammo company
Americans are killing themselves and each other every day with all manner of things, some quickly, some slowly.
The things that are banned aren’t eradicated, just disallowed.
I’m going to sue anybody and everybody that I can because I diabetes because of the farmer that grew it, the manufacture that processed it, the trucker that hauled it, the store that sold it, the stove that cooked it, the restaurant that cooked it and the servers, the electric or gas company that supplied the gas or electric to cook it, the manufacturing company that made the forks, plates, glass, that mined the stainless steel or ore…see where I’m going with this? Where does the liability end?
Gonna sue Breyers because their ice cream is soooo tasty it made me fat! Damn them!
I mean this is a dangerous precedent, your right, where does it end?
So by their reasoning if someone intentionally runs you over with a Ford vehicle then you can sue Ford for $73 Million. Good to know
how about we sue manufacturers of cars, trucks, alcohol, knives, baseball, bats, cocaine, fentenal, ……………
