School Status for Wednesday, Jan. 5th

Wicomico County Public Schools Closed

Wicomico Schools Central/School Offices Open with 2-Hour Delay

While the inclement weather has passed and our schools are ready for students and staff, road conditions throughout the county, particularly the secondary roads, continue to be of great concern. We do not believe it will be safe yet tomorrow morning for our students to reach school. Therefore, Wicomico County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow. We anticipate that the Central Office and school offices will be open with a two-hour delay, but will update staff by email in the morning if any change to that plan is needed. Please take care, and we hope to see everyone Thursday morning. Thank you.

  1. The taxpayers bought every damn student a computer so put the teachers to work and teach our damn children!! Snowday’s make no Fkg sense anymore! You Libtards wanted computers for virtual learning now do some virtual learning or get docked your pay for every day missed!

  2. I love looking at all the FB posts about school closings due to snow. The majority of the people that support this are teachers and public school employees. This is a free vacation day for them so no wonder they act like they are so concerned about the safety of the children.

    1. Teachers have to make day up. They have to work 190 days and students go 180 days. As for The board employees and Admin in schools it is a free day.

  3. Here is a fair question Mr. Joe.

Do school teachers, administrators and school employees have to take a vacation day or are snow days a paid vacation for them?

    1. Dear 3:11,

When a snow day is called, teachers are indeed paid for the day. Administrators and other 12 month employees have annual leave days that they may take if they choose not to come into the school. Otherwise, 12 month employees report based on conditions. Many times you will see a closing reflect that schools are closed for teachers and students but office staff and administrators report 2 hours late.

As for the teachers getting a ‘free’ day – well, they are and they aren’t. It really depends how their contract is stipulated. Some school districts state in their teacher contracts that in the event of inclement weather and school closings take effect, teachers are paid for the day but have to make it up at the end of the year. Other times it is the reverse, so while it may appear that teachers are getting a free day, they end up completing it one way or another. I hope that clarifies things for you.

      Respectfully,

      Paladin

  4. The teachers like any excuse for a day off. They would much prefer to sit at home and keep their tootsies warm and comfy in their bunny slippers and play on the computer than have to go out in the nasty weather like the rest of us and deal with those younguns.
