Fair Maps Maryland Statement on Maryland Legislative Redistricting Advisory Commission Congressional Map: “They Doubled Down on Gerrymandering”

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Fair Maps Maryland today released the following statement from board member Jim Brochin in response to the Maryland Legislative Redistricting Advisory Commission officially selecting a congressional redistricting map that further divides Marylanders and continues the state’s shameful legacy of partisan gerrymandering:

“Marylanders deserve better than this. After a handful of half-hearted public meetings and lip service to transparency, the Legislative Redistricting Advisory Commission has done exactly what we knew they would do – they doubled down on gerrymandering. The map they decided to move forward with is nothing short of the same kind of voter suppression that they decry in other states and proof they are more interested in political power than free and free elections.

“It doesn’t have to be this way. The Maryland Citizens Redistricting Commission created fair and non-partisan maps that not only make common sense but have been given top marks by the Princeton University Gerrymandering Project. Fair Maps Maryland will continue advocating for the Maryland General Assembly to reject any map that seeks to divide Marylanders in the name of partisan politics and to finally do the right thing. It’s not too late.”

  1. Is the AG of Maryland going to take them to court for gerrymandering. That is his job.

He took TRUMP to court for every little thing and this is worst.

Where is COMRADE HOGAN since he talked BIG about not allowing gerrymandering like O’MALLEY did.
