On October 5, 2021, liberal acting County Executive John Psota held an informational session at the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center sponsored by the Greater Salisbury Committee, the SACC and the liberal council members to explain how they are going to rape the tax payers again. They want to destroy a perfectly good softball field and turn it into pickleball fields, a new fad for the elderly.
It’s obvious that Mike Dunn and Jake Day control Wicomico County with the help of Bill Chambers from the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce. Both Mike Dunn and Bill Chambers use the large email address book and send out mass emails telling their disciples they need to attend Mr. Psota’s Dog and Pony Show. Remember the House of Lords? This is much worse.
Josh Hastings said: “The good news for taxpayers, the funding won’t come out of their pockets.”
Where does he think that money will come from? The state will dole out the money so it will be coming out of taxpayers pockets. He forgot to mention that but he mentioned the small $300,000 from the YMCA. They are making that donation because the pickleball courts will be for the YMCA and county taxpayers won’t be able to use it unless they joined the YMCA.
“What’s now an underused field, could turn into a brand new playground, a second basketball court, and a 12-court pickleball complex.”
Why is it an unused field? Because the Parks and Recreation Department has neglected it for several years. Instead of using the field for the USSSA tournament in July, they are sending the softball teams to Worcester County. Why aren’t any of the little leagues using it? Why aren’t any of the high schools using it? The high schools only have one field and they share it between the varsity and junior varsity teams. Give it to the Pony League. Poor management from the Parks and Recs Department.
“… bring millions of dollars into the community,” said Miller.”
Really? This is nothing but smoke and mirrors. Why hasn’t anything the Parks and Recs Department done under Steve Miller’s leadership brought in millions yet? It will not bring millions of dollars to Wicomico County, it’s going to cost millions of dollars.
Jake Day said that the city would run water and sewer to the “revised” Harmon Field for FREE!! Ask the tax paying citizens that just built a new house in the city of Salisbury how much it cost to run water and sewer to their new homes? It wasn’t free because they have to pay for all the freebies like this that Jake Day is giving away.
There were citizens that wanted to ask questions but Steve Miller and John Psota told them NO. Did you understand what was just said?? No questions, but they did allow Mike Dunn to tell everyone of his disciples in the audience to attend the county council meeting to intimidate them. No questions would be allowed to be ask. They want to tell YOU what they want you to hear about YOUR money! Where is the transparency?? Remember the earlier statement that Mike Dunn and Jake Day run Wicomico County. It’s a Dunn Deal!
If the county has a desire to build pickleball courts they have numerous locations to build on that doesn’t require the destruction of a perfectly good ballfield.
If Josh Hastings and Bill McCain support spending money destroy a perfectly good softball field and replacing it with pickleball courts, it’s a bad idea.
If you are a taxpayer in Wicomico County you need to call or email the county council immediately. Better yet, you need to attend the county council meeting Tuesday night, Oct. 5th at 6pm and let the council know this is a bad idea.
“Better yet, you need to attend the county council meeting Tuesday night, Oct. 5th at 6pm and let the council know this is a bad idea.”
Wasn’t Oct 5th yesterday?
Asking for a friend……
These pickle ball players who have nothing better to do than play pickle ball at the taxpayers expense, need to find a cheaper hobby, one that doesn’t cost those of us who can’t afford it.
It’s amazing that the people in this county haven’t figured out what’s going on with county council members and the chamber of commerce. It happens over and over and over again and voters continue to just sit on their butts and let it happen. Democrats in chamber need money so they take their projects to Democrat controlled council. Yeah that’s right. Democrat controlled council. Josh Hastings, Bill McCain, Ernie Davis and Rino, John Cannon control this council. Next election, same thing will happen, and it will continue to happen over and over and over again. Democrat controlled chamber needs money. They take their projects to Democrat controlled council. Anybody getting this yet? Jon E. Jrr.
Democrats.
Their solution to EVERYTHING is more taxes.
And arrogant dismissal of any opposition.
Their basic philosophy is “we know what’s best for you and if you don’t know that, we will be happy to silence you, bully you, intimidate, and harass you into submission. Oh yeah. Fines. Don’t forget fines. We LOVE to fine you for insolence and disobedience, too”.
And, by the way, WTF is “pickle ball”???
Further, and democrats ALWAYS fail to know this — the GOVERNMENT DOESN’T HAVE ANY MONEY unless they TAKE IT from citizens who work for a living.
Democrats think the government just goes out back and picks money off the “free money tree”, which, according to their mind, is constantly in bloom.
We can start the hanging of these leeches locally if that’s what it takes to start it on a national basis.
Yeah. I said it. Complain to the State’s Attorney. He’ll get the same answer I gave him before — bite my ace.
It is a she and really nothing but a drama queen.
I enjoy racquet sports, specifically tennis. Have yet to try pickleball, but interested. Long time YMCA member as my kids were growing up. No gripes. That said,
I oppose tearing up the Harmon Field complex to install a pickleball area. Not so long ago the YMCA had a multi court tennis facility. Interest waned, YMCA support vanished, upkeep ceased and today what once were nice tennis courts are an expanded parking lot from the YMCA building to the golf course.
If public dollars are going to build a pickle ball area anywhere in the county, the area should be open to all and not linked to YMCA membership.
I think it’s a fair question to ask: Do you honestly think an activity that is gaining popularity in an indoor, climate controlled facility will maintain that if moved outdoors? I don’t. And I’m in the age bracket pickleball is attracting.
My suggestion is to put a couple pickleball courts down in a number of areas where there is space adjacent to existing sports or park areas. How about at Pemberton, sited close to Pemberton Road? Parker Complex? Crown Sports? Wor-Wic? At various schools? If those baby steps prove popular, build more. If they turn out to be underutilized stop adding and let those playing continue with the ones first built.
Hogan bucks come from John Q Public’s pockets; build facilities John Q and his family can afford to use!
Miller was just on T.V. crying that the rec and parks department is so under staffed. How many park irons do we have in the fire now that has cost taxpayers thousands and are still undeveloped ? Pirates Wharf and West Metro core to name a couple. Miller and Psota would try to sell snake oil to a dead man. Just say No this fickle pickle folly.
