Letter to the Editor

Baseball and softball is under attack in Wicomico County! John Psota, the acting County Executive and Steve Miller, the Rec’s, Parks and Tourism Director secretly worked out a deal to turn over this perfectly good baseball/softball field to the YMCA of The Chesapeake That’s right the YMCA of The Chesapeake! It is no longer a local YMCA serving Wicomico County only. Psota and Miller also secretly applied for an $800,000 grant from the state to completely demolish this perfectly good baseball field and build new pickleball courts on it. What a waste of a perfectly good baseball field! What a waste of tax dollars that could be used for other things. Don’t let this story fool you, your tax dollars will be going to support the YMCA of the Chesapeake and not the quality of life for Wicomico County citizens! If the YMCA wants to build pickleball courts then they should build it on their vacant land behind the YMCA that they rarely use. If Psota and Miller want to build pickleball courts then they should build them on the 100 acres of the West Metro Core that was in the news recently where both John Psota and Steve Miller had planned to sell. Here are the 10 locations of the YMCA of The Chesapeake: Elkton, Chestertown, Centreville, Denton, Easton, St. Michaels, Cambridge, Salisbury, Pocomoke City, and Chincoteague Island. They will be using YOUR fields instead of you! This not a partnership with the YMCA, that is just a smoke screen.

Why can’t this baseball field be used by the Delmarva Pony League, East Wicomico Little League or any of the 4 high schools for practice. Every high school only has one baseball field and one softball field. The JV and Varsity teams have only one field to share between them. If this field wasn’t needed then why did Steve Miller dupe the council and the taxpayers into building 3 new softball/baseball fields at the Henry Parker Athletic Complex just 3 years ago at a cost of over $3 million dollars for the USSSA Softball World Series?? They destroyed perfectly food soccer fields for the new baseball fields!! This is an outrageous waste of tax dollars and everyone should contact the county and demand they quit ripping off of the taxpayers! Please call and email you elected Reps and express your outrage!

  1. harmon field used to be the place to be to watch the best fast pitch softball in the country. now they want to play pickle ball, i cant wait to see how many hundreds of people flock there to play, if the city and county had any vision whatsoever the old mall property would have been converted into athletic fields. shops and a hotel to support the children and their families attending events. that area is an embarrassment to the county. miller sees it each day and thinks it looks great. we live in the slums.

  2. Psota is just a 122k empty no stones suit who is riding the wave. He replaced that worthless turd Strasburg who not only is getting a county pension but also consulting for the county for $75.00 per hour. All on them relying on the previous terminated city head bean counter and her spin along with Psota to pick and chose who gets salary increases and leave the rest of the 700 county employees with nothing. Miller is another disaster in his self. He is way over his head in making decisions on his own. You can thank your ex liberal leaders for this Harmon field sour grapes like Tilghman and Sarbanes and the worthless Dave Ryan.

  3. Doesn’t this always go on when you hire friends instead of qualified employees? This is how damorats roll because they are in the gig for themselves, not the ones they serve.

  4. Pickle Ball is the new recreation for senior citizens. It is very big in Wicomico County. Seniors are having difficulty finding courts.
