SOMERSET COUNTY, 9/3/21, Deputy State Fire Marshals from the Lower Eastern Regional Office have charged a Princess Anne man with arson after he admitted to setting a fire on August 3, 2021 in Somerset County. Deputy State Fire Marshals were contacted by staff at “Go Getters” a local health care clinic about statements made by Mr. Jackson Cain. Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to the Go Getters Clinic and later conducted an interview with Mr. Cain where he confessed to investigators to intentionally setting a fire at a structure located at 30409 Oak Street in Princess Anne, Somerset County, Maryland. Deputy State Fire Marshals had originally responded to the fire scene on August 3, 2021 and made contact with Cain. At that time Cain explained to investigators that he had been smoking and had accidentally left his cigar on a mattress.
Cain felt compelled to confess to investigators that he had been untruthful in his initial encounter with them and that he did in fact intentionally set the fire. The August 3rd fire occurred at 4:20 AM and brought out 25 firefighters from the Princess Anne and surrounding fire departments. It took 50 minutes to bring the one alarm blaze under control to the one story, wood frame home which was owned by Go Getters. Ultimately the fire caused a total of $50,000.00 in damages.
On September 2, 2021 after meeting with investigators, Cain was transported to Tidal Health Medical Center in Salisbury on an Emergency Petition. He was later released from Tidal Health where Deputy State Fire Marshals charged him with Arson 1st Degree, Arson 2nd Degree as well as Reckless Endangerment for the August 3rd fire. Cain was transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center where he was being held with no bond. If convicted of all charges, Mr. Cain faces a maximum penalty of 55 years of imprisonment and/or $85,000.00 in fines.
