Today’s COVID-19 summary in Delaware reflects data as of Tuesday, Aug. 17. Unfortunately, there were 9 deaths reported today – 5 current ones and 4 from a review of Vital Statistics records from April, June and July.
• Of the 5 new deaths, 3 were residents of Kent County, 1 was from Sussex County and 1 was from New Castle County. They ranged in age from their 50s to their 80s, all had underlying health conditions, none was a resident of a long-term care facility, and 4 were not vaccinated and 1 individual was fully vaccinated.
• Of the 4 deaths reported from a review of Vital Statistics records, all 4 were residents of New Castle County. They ranged in age from their 50s to their 70s, all had underlying health conditions, 1 was a resident of a long-term care facility, and 3 were not vaccinated and 1 was fully vaccinated.
Their deaths increased Delaware’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 1,849.
The other numbers:
• 321 new positive cases, bringing the overall total to 115,236. The cumulative breakdown by county: New Castle, 67,764 cases; Kent, 19,530 cases; Sussex, 27,709; county not yet known, 233.
• 22.9% of people who tested positive in the 7-day rolling average (up nine-tenths of a point from the previous day) and 7.4% of total tests were positive in the 7-day rolling average (up three-tenths of a percent from the previous day).
• 152 current hospitalizations (up 10 from the previous day), including 24 individuals in critical condition.
• 21 new hospital admissions (up 10 from the previous day).
• 611 people who tested negative, bringing the total to 653,438.
• 482,465 Delawareans fully vaccinated (up 1,423 from the previous day).
• 1,089,094 total vaccine doses administered (up 2,431 from the previous day).
