A Viewer Writes: Horizon Tax Incentive Program

The 4 Democrats on the County Council voted to give Friends of Jake Day a tax abatement through the HORIZON bill for the next 10 years which means Jake Day’s buddies will benefit by developing Section 8 Housing and making millions by not paying taxes. Brad Gillis is laughing all the way to the bank because him and Nick Simpson will be getting a 20 year tax abatement from the City and a 10 year abatement from the County. Brad Gillis owns some of the parking lots that he squirreled from the City of Salisbury for nearly nothing. Now he is going to build it in the backs of the tax payers while the rest of the taxpayers will be footing the bills for them! This vote happened after numerous residents and business owners pleaded with the County to vote against it. Nick Simpson, Brad Gillis, Mike Dunn, Bill Chambers and some RINO named John Rankin begged the County Council to pass the HORIZON
bill. John Rankin is a recent President of the Wicomico County Republican Club. John Cannon stated that someone asked him about owning property in the tax district, namely the Cannon Building behind the library. He said he got an opinion from the ethics commission and they said it was Ok for him to vote on the bill. He then stated there was a 99% chance that he wouldn’t ask for the tax abatement. Hmmm… so there is a chance that RINO Cannon will take the tax abatement? No wonder he broke ranks with the Republicans and voted with the Democrats for this unethical bill! Is Jake Day getting a cut from this? This will be another failed development in downtown Salisbury but someone will be lining their pockets. If Salisbury is such a “hotbed for growth” like Jake Day said in his tweet from August 13th then why does his developer buddies need these massive tax abatements??

  1. Always, always about the big names getting bigger. Nothing ever for the small guys around this dump of a town. I hate damn politics.

  2. Get what you voted for suckers…..its a dunn deal. Im moving i recommend you do also … ASAP BEFORE THE TAX SUNAMI HITS!
Ass hats have always been in control of smallsbury

  3. I hear that the RINO John Cannon will not be running for county council next November. That’s good. He’s made enough money off his seat that he doesn’t need it anymore. I doubt there is one Republican who will ever vote for him again.

    1. I think RINO Cannon The Slumlord wants to run for County Executive, state delegate or state senator. He has high aspirations and Chris Adams and Addie Eckardt are squirming in their pants. I don’t think they have anything to worry about but they don’t need Cannon running against them!

  4. Things like this should be put on the ballot and tax payers vote on it.

They are ruling on tax increases the same way COMMUNIST rules.

This is not democracy. All tax increase on the little man should be deducted from all these tax breaks for the rich HOMEBOYS

  5. What’s in it for Jake Day? That weasel has got to be lining his pockets from all his developer millennial buddies.

  6. So someone mentioned there were 8 projects waiting for this free tax credit down town??

I guarantee the names Gillis- Gilkerson are attached to them!

    1. I agree with you. Jake Day gave Gillis Gilkerson several of the properties downtown. Jake Day is definitely getting a kickback and he wants to be your Lt. Governor!

  7. Jared Schablein “Liked” that? Bwahahahaha!! Another buddy of Jake Day, the leader of the Lower Shore Progressive Caucus!

    Bwahahahahahaha!

  8. There are seven other incorporated towns in Wicomico County. Now it is willards Fruitland, Delmar and the others turn to come to the candy store which is the county council I f it is good for Salisbury, it should be god for the other seven.

    1. “The hotbed for growth on the Eastern Shore”. Growth from uneducated Haitians and Hispanics! Truly laughable, almost as laughable as Jake Day’s new hair style.

  9. Here is a post about John Cannon in 2014. They didn’t like him then and can’t stand the RINO now! This citizen was spot on and the RINO hasn’t changed much!

I’ll not vote for this “democrat”
His voting record and and are high taxes and fees speak for themselves. He may call himself a Republican, but his voting record says liberal democrat! I fear if elected again, we will have more stagnation and higher taxes and fees.
