American Federation of Teachers head Randi Weingarten makes over $560,000 per year, 9 times average teacher salary, records show

The head of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Randi Weingarten makes over half a million dollars per year in her job – more than nine times the average teachers salary in the U.S.

In 2019, Weingarten received a salary of $489,844 along with $74,392 in other compensation, bringing her total haul for the year to $564,236, according to the AFT’s Internal Revenue Service Form 990 for that year, the most recent year available.

The median salary for public high school teachers was $62,870, as of May 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). For preschool, elementary, middle, secondary, and special education teachers, the median salary was $58,550, according to the BLS.

The AFT did not respond to Fox News’ request for comment on whether Weingarten’s high salary is justified by her work.

  1. Its an organization. Don’t care what she or others in organizations make.

Prez/Vice/Speaker salaries as of January 2021 : President: $400,000: Vice President: $253,500: Speaker of the House: $223,500
    House/Senate Members make $174K
(Not included travel/per diem expenses, best health, retirement, tv, etc)

I know CONgress doesn’t do their jobs!

  2. The members who (often unwillingly) who pay monthly dues are last on the list that the union leaders of care about. Unions are a huge money maker for the Democratic Party.
The sole purpose of unions is to collect money for the Dems.

  3. In my opinion, both the AFT and the NEA have seriously gone off the rails regarding politics and both are in bed with the democrats. I know more than a few teachers and they are leaving the unions/associations because of this. Of course, if you have a bozo like this in charge of the AFT it’s no wonder people want out. To any teachers reading this, bail from your unions/associations. They are not doing you any good.

  4. I was a member the ibew for a few years, union went on strike for a nickel, lost over 2 months of wages, do the math, for a nickel? then had the bad luck of being forced to join the iam at piedmont airlines, all the union rep cared about was dues. They didnt do shit for the members! what a gravy train they were on. talked a lot of shit but when it came down to it, the airline always got what it wanted and the members got nothing they didnt already have. didn’t see the fool until next election!
they (unions) perpetuate themselves at the members expense! wake up fools!

  5. Teachers are intimidated and harassed to join the union. Many join for the insurance although there are other means to obtain insurance. As a former teacher I know what I speak.l

    1. I don’t know about intimidated and harassed where I teach. When I was hired I just deleted the emails sent to me and politely declined their multiple attempts to get me to join. I never made a big deal about, never gave an explanation, and never said a word further. I do have to say that it was amusing to me to watch their incredulous facial expressions of disbelief.
