San Jose to Tax Gun Owners – Confiscate Firearms for Noncompliance

Already facing some of the strictest state level gun laws in the nation, residents of San Jose, California, will now face a yearly firearms tax and be required to carry special insurance following a unanimous vote from their city council on new gun control measures. The penalty for noncompliance is the confiscation of one’s firearms.

The forthcoming fee for gun ownership in the city has not yet been determined, but officials said that anyone found to be in noncompliance will have their weapons confiscated.

San Jose gun owners already have to pay an 11% tax every time they purchase ammunition, plus a background check fee.

The new tax creates an obvious backdoor gun confiscation policy. If the city council wanted to effectively ban all guns, they can simply raise the annual fee to an amount that no one could be reasonably expected to pay.
