LeVar Burton: Permanently hosting Jeopardy! is ‘what I’m supposed to do’

This actor, director and children’s television host is most known for his work in Roots (1977), the Star Trek: Next Generation franchise (1987-1994) and Reading Rainbow. (1983-2006). He’s also the popular pick to succeed the late, great Alex Trebek in hosting duties for the popular game show, Jeopardy!

Who is LeVar Burton?

Correct! (well… with an asterisk).

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Burton expounded on the topic that’s had him trending in the news lately, but he also opened up in a way that reminds fans that you can’t spell “persona” without “person.”

“I feel like this is what I’m supposed to do,” Burton said about the thought of becoming the next permanent host of Jeopardy!. “I have been watching Jeopardy! more or less every night of my life since Art Fleming was host. Jeopardy! is a cultural touchstone, and for a Black man to occupy that podium is significant. Look, I have had a career for the [expletive] ages. RootsStar TrekReading Rainbow. Won a Grammy. Got a shelf full of Emmys. I’m a storyteller and game shows are tremendous stories.”

  1. If this happens then everyone should not watch it and write the network to not yield to political pressure for the year of kissing black ass! This sickening over and over again and again companies bending over backwards to not look “Racist” and to be “Inclusive” when will companies just stand up and say “No More”, we will hire who we want and that is the end of it!

  2. Political correctness has gone too far!
How many black contestants do you really see on Jeopardy?
    Very very few!
Lets see what happens to the ratings.
I predict the viewership will start to plummet!

  3. You know this would happen. Watch, and there will be more blacks on, and the category lineup will get alot easier. Mark my words. There’s people sitting around just waiting to implement this. This show is to white.

    1. Yup, and those questions will be dumbed down to 1st. grade level and the blacks will still get them wrong!

  4. I too never watch the show but agree it all has gone too far, the most qualified should always get any position not the color but the person.

  5. CBS the “Colored Broadcasting System” really wants to find a black crippled woman that has changed her sex to male, and she/he MC’s from the wheelchair with one fake arm too!

  6. Like the show and Alec was great. Guests have run the gamut but Burton wouldn’t be in my top 5. As an actor he played his parts and cashed his checks. Next!
