A Viewer Writes: School Summer Lunches

I was driving past my local elementary school and saw their new LED message sign in the yard letting parents know that lunches were available for daily pickup for their school aged children.
Can I do some math on this with you?
So, the Democrat run school system has enacted yet another Government Program that uses our tax dollars to buy food, cook it, package it into individual packaging usually costing about what, $8 at a fast food chain so parents can every day at lunchtime individually drive their cars to and from the school to pick up these lunches and bring them home to serve to their kids for lunch, averaging maybe a six mile trip. $2 gas,
So, this mother is sending in her $8 tax money to pay for the meal plus $2 for gas and a half hour of her day for a grand total of $10 per kid for lunch.
I thought Democrats were all scared of global climate warming/ cooling/ changing and burning fossil fuels.
Why not just save all that money and time and just walk over to the fridge and make them a ham and cheese sandwich with a glass of milk for less than a quarter of that? You’re still taking the time to feed them and saving $7.50 a kid per day.
This just proves that Democrats simply want people to be dependent on the government instead of being self sufficient. Communism is their game and they won’t stop with “Programs” until it’s implemented and we become unable to be self sufficient.
This must be stopped immediately.

  1. I know why not just have the government deliver it to each kid too then the parent doesn’t have to do anything

  2. Most not all the students are in within walking distance to the school. If you notice most areas surrounding Salisbury never give out free lunches. Seems to be only in Salisbury. Why would the parent spend their food stamp money to buy food when they can get it for free. They need that money to buy their food from the seafood markets.

  3. Do any parents these days have any responsibility to take care of and feed their own children? Why do working people’s tax money have to support everyone else’s kids who don’t work?

  4. Before you criticize a program that you evidently by your comments know nothing about, may I suggest that you go up to the school and speak to one of the lovely lunch ladies and have them explain the summer feeding program to you.

  5. Hell—why not just hire 2 more government employees???? to hand feed the chillin’s. One to supervise the size of each morsel, and another to shove it down the throat of the po’ chillin. WOW—did I forget that they need a clean-up employee to clean up the climate changing mess afterward—and another SUPERVISOR to make sure the clean-up is within OSHA & EPA guidelines. The unemployment rate would drop to -3.50% if that happened. Think of all the idiots who would now become employed. OH DAMN—I forgot, they have to show up first. But at least they would be getting paid—WITH OUR TAX MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Oh don’t tell me that the parents are going to have to use their crabs, shrimp and lobster money to feed their own kids in August?

  7. Your city and county government is giving away millions of property tax dollars to city contractors connected with the Chamber of Commerce and Greater Salisbury Committee and you worry about a food program for kids that you know nothing about. You’re pathetic. Jon E. Jrr.

  8. if you are unable to raise support feed clothe and teach a child then you should not be allowed to have them! it’s much cheaper to sterilize these animals then let them continue to breed and cause problems for society!
