A group of close to 40 Baltimore businesses has signed on to a letter threatening to withhold tax payments from the city until it improves policing and other services.
“When it comes to prostitution, public urination and defecation, and the illegal sale and consumption of alcohol and illicit drugs on the streets, we know these crimes are not as serious as the carjackings, shootings, and homicides that have become routine,” the letter reads. “But, as this past weekend proved, a culture of lawlessness rarely remains confined to petty offenses and invariably leads to the kinds of violence and tragedy we witnessed late Saturday night.”
The group of 37 businesses sent the letter to Mayor Brandon Scott, Councilman Zeke Cohen, State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, and Police Commissioner Michael Harrison after a violent weekend led to the shooting of three men in the city’s Fells Point neighborhood where the businesses are located.
“What is happening in our front yard — the chaos and lawlessness that escalated this weekend into another night of tragic, unspeakable gun violence — has been going on for far too long,” the letter said.
Wont succeed, never has, still wont in todays society. All the cameras, media coverage….nope. Tax man always taketh and tax man always gives it away.
Dont like it, then threaten to leave like you always do!!! Then dont and continue to cry poor.
USA USA USA
The businesses should just leave that city Let the blacks have it Defund the police better yet disband the police completely and let the blacks run wild It will be fun to sit back and watch the blacks slaughtering each other Blacks always think they are so smart with their blm nonsense let them have it. They won’t win They never do because they are not a blessed race God hates their lying ugly hearts He hates the way they lie about being Christians. You can’t be a democrat and a Christian and is why God is punishing them by taking their kids grandkids etc You support blm you will be cursed and punished that they can bet on.
Fight back! It’s all you have.
Huh? If leaders cant lead – yet are elected anyway and business threaten to withhold mandated payments….no one wins. Businesses cannot make the rules up as they go. There are choices (to include compromise) yet keep electing trash, thats all that you will have. That and no power to your businesses and court cases that would bankrupt most. In the end, the city will still be there.
