Fact Check: White House Falsely Claims Americans Paying Less for Gas than Average During Last 15 Years

CLAIM: White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki claimed Americans were “paying about the same for gas” under President Joe Biden as they were during former President Donald Trump’s administration in 2018 and 2019. The White House also claimed Americans are “paying less in real terms for gas than they have on average over the last 15 years.”

VERDICT: MOSTLY FALSE. A look at the data shows the White House is struggling with the numbers, using inflationary clarifiers such as “less in real terms” to fudge the numbers.

A look at average price data shows gas prices since 2006 (15 years ago) averaged 2.813. The cost of gas is up 7.3 percent from the average

Gas prices since 1991 averaged 2.082, so the current cost of gas is up 45 percent.

  1. What’s new. These turds lie to the American people and act like it is true. We need to vote them out and right now should factor in all the stealing of votes that is showing up in states everyday. Time from our president to be reinstated. Go Trump!

  2. Key is watching oil prices. A barrel has been hovering in the mid to high 60s the last month. Trading is based on 30 to 60 days from now, but when it trades higher BIG oil always turns up the prices. Why? Because they can. Threat of a storm in the gulf…prices rise. Change of seasons, rise…OPEC pulling back on production, rise. A good average gallon of gas is about $2.50 based on current dollars…and so much better than other nations. Fed and state taxes are always included in the price which makes it higher in some parts than others.

  3. I think they think if they say things enough we’ll begin to believe them. I know for sure I’m paying about a dollar more a gallon for gas than I was a year ago.
