Video that’s gone near viral on social media appears to show Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby making an obscene gesture. The quality of the video makes it hard to tell, but the image enlarged shows a clearer picture of what looks like a middle finger.
Using her official Twitter account, Mosby tweeted Thursday that it’s a thumbs up, not the middle finger, adding: “Enough already. Let’s move on.”
To that, a spokesperson also told FOX45 News, it didn’t happen.
On Thursday, a headline at the Baltimore Sun read: “After denial State’s Attorney Mosby acknowledges obscene gesture.” The paper reported that she told them she “responded and felt threatened. “
Whether she did or didn’t make the hand gesture, and the firestorm about whether she’s been forthcoming about it, marks another controversy swirling around Baltimore’s embattled top prosecutor.
Mosby is under a federal investigation, and now, making news elsewhere, are her policy changes, which focus on not prosecuting low offenses. Those prosecution policies are igniting a debate citywide.
“There are people that you wouldn’t even have this debate because their reputation is so stellar, they should keep her eye on the ball. That’s one of her problems, she doesn’t keep her eye on the ball,” said Towson University rhetoric professor Richard Vatz.
