Salisbury Mayor Featured At Memorial Day Service

BERLIN — The annual Memorial Day service in Ocean Pines will return to the Worcester County Veterans Memorial on Monday, May 31, beginning at 11 a.m.

The ceremony this year will feature Salisbury Mayor Jake Day as the keynote speaker.

Day recently returned from a year-long deployment in East Africa with the Maryland National Guard and is one of only three full-time U.S. mayors ever deployed while serving in office.

The music portion of the program will include Frank Nanna and the WWIIunes, featuring Todd Crosby. Randy Lee Ashcraft will perform a new song honoring the recent visit of The Wall That Heals, and the Delmarva Chorus will perform the “Armed Forces Medley,” honoring the Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force and Coast Guard.

  1. I’m sure they could have found a better keynote speaker. One that is not under investigations for being RACIST!

  2. Another attack on Maryland’s Southern Heritage!!

Gov. Larry Hogan Plans On Signing Bill That Repeals ‘Maryland, My Maryland’ As State Song, Spokesperson Says

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — Maryland may soon be getting a new state song.

A spokesperson says Gov. Larry Hogan plans on signing a bill nixing the song.

Earlier this year, state lawmakers successfully voted to repeal “Maryland, My Maryland,” after decades of failed attempts.

The song is a Civil War-era call to arms for the Confederacy against then President Abraham Lincoln

The bill has been awaiting the governor’s signature since march.

  3. Only 2 posts on this topic? This site is dead. Trump warned that if he ever left office the news media would take a huge dive. He was right.

  4. He doesn’t care about Salisbury & never has he needs to move to Worcester County they can have him. He was deployed only to avoid charges on his then wife. And we now know how he treated other officers in Africa. We need a new mayor ASAP.

  5. Just for those whom are unware, rest assure that Jakey boys “deployment” was nothing more than him in an air conditioned forward operating base where he wasn’t within miles of an actual conflict. Surely quite convenient to escape his ongoing issues with his wife. I don’t like to bad mouth those that serve, because I to have served in a combat theater during the initial invasion of Iraq as an infantryman, so I’m not speaking from an inexperienced position, but the fact that his little getaway has been praised and even noticed makes me ill! He is no soldier, leader, mayor, or anything of importance. He’s another part of the sad good ole system and a sad excuse for a leader. Wake up Salisbury!

  6. Bob Aswell.....Realist

What’s he going to expound on, racial persecution? He should know the finer points! The use of chains to wear
on the physique of your charges? Abuse of authority in uniform?
It’s rich that this crew of asses that has ruined Salis/Wicomico Co. think he’s the best keynote speaker that could be found. Hasn’t anyone noticed his deployment came to an abrupt end prematurely? His service record should be exposed and brought into play.

  7. I think I’ll attend this little event with a bunch of vets and call him out on his little deployment, his abuse of a black subordinate with chains, and his abuse and abandonment of his wife and children.

  8. The Veteran’s event will be nice with the exception of the Woodchuck being granted access to a microphone. Covid issues aside, not having to see or hear from him this past year was a pleasure.

Memorial Day should be focused on those of our service members who fell while in uniform. Veteran’s Day celebrates those who have served, past and present.

There is sufficient time for the organizers to revamp the lineup to identify a more appropriate speaker.

  9. When he does leave or is given the boot I sure as hell hope he takes Glantz and Kitzrow with him.
