EPA rule to phase out gases used in refrigerators, coolants

The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to phase down production and use of hydrofluorocarbons, highly potent greenhouse gases commonly used in refrigerators and air conditioners.

The proposed rule follows through on a law Congress passed in December authorizing a 15-year phaseout of HFCs.

The rule is intended to decrease U.S. production and use of the gases by 85% over the next 15 years, part of a global phaseout intended to slow climate change.

“By phasing down HFCs, which can be hundreds to thousands of times more powerful than carbon dioxide at warming the planet, EPA is taking a major action to help keep global temperature rise in check,” said EPA Administrator Michael Regan.

Some companies have already started using alternative refrigerants with lower global-warming effects.

It’s the first Biden administration rule aimed at combatting climate change and the EPA says the move will play a big part in cutting America’s greenhouse gas emissions in half this decade.

  1. These tyrants running the EPA are determined to put us back into the 19th century with the ridiculous overreaching unnecessary regulations.

There IS NO UNNATURAL CLIMATE CHANGE!

The earth has been warming for 400 years!

      1. Hey dumbass the earth is 4.6 million years old and we have 100 years of weather data that s way too small of a sample… the earth’s temperature is based on solar activity not earth activity,,, that’s a proven fact

  2. There’s no scientific data that shows any damage to our planet, all they are doing is sending more jobs and manufacturing to China for a payoff … these people are sellouts

  3. Great so we will pay double and triple for fridge’s and AC and the biggest polluters China and India will pay less for the old stuff. So sick of the USA having to lead on this and stick us citizens with the bill. It should be if the entire world can not agree on a standard then we should not be subject to all this feel good environmental stuff. China and India have 3-4 times the population we have.

  4. translation/ the patent on these coolant gases are about to run out so we need a new formula to patent to continue our approved monopoly to make profits in stocks and kickbacks

  5. Does that mean that the FEDERAL government is responsible of replacing the equipment that will not support their new regulations? This has happen before and the owners of this equipment had to to be responsible for their equipment or not have use of such equipment.

  6. Retirees on SSI will not have a fridge or A/C if they have to replace their equipment that will not be able to use new type of freon, Will the US government have that responsibility or will this be another step in the Democrat genocide of citizens who do not believe in their agenda?

  7. Well there goes Your Air Conditioning & You now have to Salt your foods like in the cowboy days !!!!
