Maryland State Police Union: ‘Our profession is in trouble’

Calls to reform, defund or even abolish police continue across the country.

This, amid many cases involving police, including the death of George Floyd at the hands of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

The President of the Maryland State Fraternal Order of Police fears this dark cloud looming over-policing is contributing to more officers turning in their badge and less people signing up to wear one.

“We can’t lose sight we have had police officers who have conducted themselves in a way that has caused people to lose trust,” said Boatwright. “But highlighting those situations on a daily basis without stating the fact that for the most part our police officers are out here doing the right thing has caused a significant decline in recruitment efforts. This has caused a significant increase in the lack of retention for our police officers. Our veteran police officers are voting with their feet. What does that mean? They’re leaving. They’re leaving in droves.”

  1. A lot of people have been bashing cops for years and now most departments are short handed because of it. Wait until Biden requires all people to pass a medical background and puts a automatic denial for certain medications. Lol. It’s coming and the arm chair worriers with the stupid quotes” out of my cold dead hand” yup, the government will help with that.

  2. Trust me you traitor’s that support Democrats, the police are the only reason people like me haven’t gotten rid of you but once they’re gone you will be too.

  3. Police Unions aren’t real unions. They only exist to protect cops from being held accountable when they break the law.

  4. The law of unintended consequence. The idiots calling to defund the police have lit this fire and will ultimately pay the price. Violent police encounters are a direct result of bad or no parenting and the participation trophy generation. Progressive liberalism is a cancer. Change my mind…

  5. The government is behind this. They are allowing these calls for police reform to go forward in order to have a police force that will obey without question instructions to shoot American citizens or run over them with tanks like in Tienemen Square for any type of dissent. But first they must get rid of the current police force who are actually here to protect US before they can bring in the police force that is designed to protect the GOVERNMENT. Communist playbook.
