Hundreds Of Employees Ask Simon & Schuster To Stop Publishing Books Tied To Trump Admin

Hundreds of Simon & Schuster employees called on the company to stop publishing books tied to the Trump administration in a petition submitted to top management on Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported, amping up the pressure after the publisher’s top executive refused to scrap a book deal with former Vice President Mike Pence.

According to the WSJ, the petition gained the support of 216 S&S employees, which amounts to about 14% of the publisher’s workforce.

Over 3,500 people outside the company also signed onto the petition, including prominent Black authors like Jesmyn Ward, a two-time winner of the National Book Award whose spokesperson confirmed with the WSJ that she was a signee.

In the letter submitted to Chief Executive Jonathan Karp and Senior Vice President Dana Canedy, the petitioners demand the company pull out of its deal to publish Pence’s memoir, citing policies they accuse of being racist, sexist and discriminatory against LGBTQIA+ people.
