It’s been over two months since Baltimore City Inspector General Isabel Cumming released her report into Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s travel and gifts.
Her investigation found Mosby failed to get majority of her sponsored trips approved by the city, and was out of the office traveling for 144 days during a two year period.
Since then Cumming’s credibility has been called into question by community leaders and members of Baltimore’s local NAACP.
“She’s been nothing but beguiling, surreptitious, deceptive and downright sneaky,” local attorney J. Wyndal Gordon said during the news conference. “If you’re going to be the ethics official, you’re reputation and integrity should be beyond reproach and that’s not what we see from her.”
They’ve accused Cumming of being bias in her investigations and unfairly targeting African American leaders and vendors who contract with the city.
Now a group of faith based leaders, ACT Now Baltimore are coming to her defense.
“For a Hispanic woman who understands what discrimination is we’ve not found her to be racist in any sense of the word,” Rev. Al Hathaway said.
He says they have similar goals of accountable, transparent, and equitable city government.
“We need to have actual facts. Is there money missing? Are there processes and procedures not being followed? We need an independent inspector general to ask those questions and deliver those findings and report that to us the public,” he said.
Cumming has been inspector general for three years and according to her office she’s completed over 120 investigations, saving taxpayers more than six million dollars.

Appears she is doing a fantastic job in saving tax dollars and exposing corruption and illegal use of tax dollars.
