Contractors say there is plenty of work out there, but part of the problem is not enough supplies.
The lack of supplies is also causing a delay in work, says Mike Donohue of Kitchen Concepts Plus in Salisbury.
“So what might have been maybe an eight or nine month build, or even a six month build, is now stretching out to a year or longer and that just extends the whole pipeline,” Donohue says.
Donohue says what is hurting business is not just the lack of supplies, but their cost once available.
“We’ve seen price increases over the last 12 months on all of our materials. So cabinets are going up between 2% and 8%. Depending on the cabinet line. Additionally we’re seeing extended leave time and availability of materials. I mean everything is going up.”
According to the National Association of Home Builders, lumber prices have skyrocketed 180% since last April. That’s adding an average of $24,000 to new home values.
