SNOW HILL – Final repairs are being made to the town’s new riverboat as officials prepare to bring it to Snow Hill by the end of the month.
As repairs near completion, the Town of Snow Hill has spent the past several weeks seeking proposals from potential operators of what is essentially a floating restaurant. Proposals are due to the town by March 5.
“We really want to have an independent operator that we lease the boat to,” Town Manager Gary Weber said.
The Black-Eyed Susan, the 149-seat riverboat purchased in 2020 with a loan from Worcester County, has been at Murtech Marine in Salisbury since the fall undergoing repairs. Though Weber initially hoped to have the boat fixed up and docked in Snow Hill by mid-February, the extensive to-do list associated with bringing the boat to town, paired with delays associated with COVID-19, slowed the process. Work is now almost done however.
is there a website? sounds like it could be a nice trip
Whatever happened to the paddle wheel boat they had in Salisbury… I think it was the “ Maryland lady” or something like that
Oh, what a turkey this will turn out to be!
Have often heard the phrase ‘A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into.’
This is starting out as just a much bigger hole in the water, and it’s likely to grow.
The recently hired insidester who foisted this idea must have a smile a mile wide while counting their cash.
This is hilarious since I don’t live in Snow Hill- oh wait I live in Worcester though which helped to fund this giant turkey. Reading the article, Weber says he has no idea how many months of the year the boat will be in operation; that will be up to the operator who submits the winning bid. How ridiculous! If an agent is trying to sell a rental property, the first info he/she would provide is anticipated income based upon months the unit is expected to be in use. If there is no projected revenue info provided by Snow Hill to these potential bidders, they are fools to even entertain this as a solid business venture. What a fiasco- hope for all of our sakes they do get some bids but it’s doubtful. Sounds like Snow Hill government will be in the tour boat operating business.
Snow Hill has a long way to go to catch up to the well established venue on the Choptank River:
