KENT ISLAND, Md. —
A recent spike in electric rates has sparked surprise, anger and questions from Eastern Shore residents.
Many Eastern Shore residents contacted the 11 News I-Team with questions as more scrutiny into electric costs arises following a sudden price surge.
“We were just shocked, frankly. We thought there was an error, a mistake, and we went online and saw hundreds of people with the same concerns. It didn’t make any sense,” said Angela Wilkinson.
Social media complaints describe a relatively mild winter, but electric bills are double those from the same time last year. Wilkinson has a smart meter that keeps track of her power usage, and she said her bill jumped up to $750 in the past two months.
“We can’t afford this. A lot of residents have to choose between paying their electric bill and putting food on their table. It’s not acceptable,” Wilkinson said.
Tracie Parkinson’s bill also climbed to more than $700.
“Even Delmarva (Power) told me there were thousands of customers complaining from the Chesapeake Bay to Ocean City, and the only common factor is Delmarva Power,” Parkinson said.

Delmarva power, taking advantage of a situation much? You and Comcast are very ridiculous with your rates and you know it.
Both of the above went up in price dramatically. With the economy in shambles like it is right now you would think they would be ashamed of themselves to reap more PROFITS making their CEO’s rich. But you can thank the Democrats for this!!!!
