Ocean City’s Abbey Burger Bistro is out; Bourbon Street is in

The Abbey Burger Bistro in Maryland’s Ocean City is closing permanently, and in its place will be the new location for Bourbon Street on the Beach.

The Abbey Burger Bistro, which has been tucked into the Holiday Inn Express off Coastal Highway at 126th Street for the last eight years, joins several other Ocean City restaurants that have made the decision to close because of pandemic-related pressures.

“OC Abbey Burger could not withstand the struggles of a quarantine required for the COVID-19 pandemic, the disproportionate impact on the seasonal resort town sector of the food industry, and the overall downturn in the economy, the last of which may reverberate for years,” the restaurant posted on Facebook, nearly a month after Bourbon Street said it was moving in.

“We are extremely humbled that so many embraced our restaurant and that we were able to succeed as long as we had,” Abbey Burger said.

  1. Like the OC Government, the winners in the commercial sector are pre-determined and hand picked. No one at Abbey Burger was obviously related to any relatives of OC Government so they are being forced out. Shame…

  2. The Ocean City “mafia” has controlled this town for years. It is not complex at all. Their transportation department is directed to direct businesses (“hey, where’s the best place to go here for whatever..” It is interesting that Bus drivers for example are NOT PERMITTED to accept tips while the Fire and Police department is. It’s as bad as asking at the Post Office, where’s the best way to mail a letter.

Only OC locals understand the joke. Condo owners are the suckers. Sorry…

  3. Terrible location, poor marketing & $16 burgers. I heard last off-season they were done, maybe landlord reduced rent to have them stay longer knowing some rent $ is better than no rent $. I see they finally tore down the north-end of old Northside Mall in front of them,,might give Bourbon Street more visibility from highway.Heard a Chipotle is coming there.

  4. Hey Beerinhand…Nov 2022 is coming quick. Start planning now since you havent planned squat over the years for our town.
