Doctors see Consequences from Delayed Routine Visits During the Pandemic

Telehealth has become a popular way to go to the doctor during the pandemic, but there can be consequences for missing months of in-person visits.

The Comprehensive Breast Center now sees 5 to 6 cancer patients a week due to people missing their appointments and screenings during the pandemic. The physicians there want patients to know the COVID-19 precautions in place to keep them safe so that they’ll keep their appointments.

Dr. M. Lisa Attebery is a breast surgical oncologist and general surgeon. She saw less cancer cases at the beginning of the pandemic as people avoided going to regular doctor’s visits.

“Since probably September when the restrictions were lifted a little bit, it’s been non-stop with diagnosis,” Dr. Attebery says. “They estimate over 8 million women missed their mammogram during the pandemic because of COVID and we’re seeing later cancers too.”

  1. Strict restrictive guidelines, whether in Doctor office or Hospital, are the reason for a lot of these missed appointments. These missed appointments are also contributed to the patient not having any support from a Family member to assist in making a very important medical decision. Doctors and Hospitals are looking at making money and not the welfare of the PATIENTS.

    This is called SOCIALIZED MEDICINE.

    1. Gosh that went so well 1005, until the last 2 sentences. Family physicians care, family physicians truly don’t like the “process” in place. Family physicians also need to get paid too.

“Doctor’s” at hospitals, agree about making money and not the welfare. Oh hell yeah.
