Republicans press constitutional amendment term-limiting members of Congress

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, joined five other Republicans on Monday in moving to restrict the number of times members of Congress can be reelected.

The legislation revives Cruz’s earlier idea for a constitutional amendment on term limits. If ratified, the measure would prevent senators from serving more than two six-year terms and House members from serving more than three two-year terms.

“Every year, Congress spends billions of dollars on giveaways for the well-connected: Washington insiders get taxpayer money and members of Congress get re-elected, all while the system fails the American people,” Cruz said in a press release.

“It’s no wonder that the vast majority of Americans from every political stripe – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents – overwhelmingly support congressional term limits,” he wrote.

Sens. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., Pat Toomey, R-Pa., Todd Young, R-Ind., Rick Scott, R-Fla., and Mike Braun, R-Ind. joined Cruz in his effort Monday.

  1. I fully support term limits on all Politians, that should not exceed 2 terms. Also they should not get their very lucrative pension and benefits after 2 terms like they do now. Where can you work for 8 or 12 years and get your full salary and benefits for retirement? They would have to invest on their for their retirement just like all citizens.

Democrats use the excuse that no legislation would be passed, since it takes to long to pass and initiate new laws. My thought is if the new laws were for the betterment of all citizens and for the Country then it would pass and be initiated quickly.

That would force unity compromise from both parties. This would also eliminate excess / unnecessary spending of tax dollars, lower taxes, eliminate pork barrel spending.

  2. Need Power to FIRE IMMEDIATLEY any Congressman or Judge just like ANY other job in the rest of America !!!!

They No damn better than we are in the rest of America !!! If you BAD , You FIRED !!! Not waiting 4 years !!!!

I agree with your sentiment, but SCOTUS doesn’t have terms.
The correct approach would be mandatory retirement age of say 70.

That way the old senile RBG would have been out YEARS ago.

  4. Only get their Salarys , No Bribes , No Other $$$ Period !!

Take powers from Congress , They are Not a Court or FBI & get away with acting as one all the time !!!

    1. Yes they get to ACT as one BUT without the Rules or any rules !!! That needs to stop !!!

They use their powers to get Around the court rules or FBI rules !!!
