Bill Gates dismisses ‘crazy conspiracy theories’ about him and Fauci

Microsoft founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates on Wednesday dismissed the “crazy conspiracy theories” that have been circulating on social media about him and top U.S. infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Nobody would have predicted that I and Dr. Fauci would be so prominent in these really evil theories,” Gates told Reuters in a recent interview. “I’m very surprised by that. I hope it goes away.”

Conspiracy theories claiming that both Gates and Fauci created the pandemic in an effort to profit from its spread and to control people have made their rounds on the internet. Some conspiracy theories also allege that the pair are seeking to insert trackable microchips into people when they get the coronavirus vaccine, according to Reuters.

Despite the theories, Gates said that he is proud of the work that Fauci and head of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, Francis Collins, have done so far, calling them “smart” and “wonderful people.”
